Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

There are several listings for SimpliSafe home security systems by sellers with 0 feedback. All are aproximately the same price of $180. This price is significantly lower than the usual price for these systems. I am interested in purchasing a system but do not want to be scammed. Is there any way I can verify if these listings are legitimate and the seller will send the item?

Thanks for any sugestions.

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

So I ordered one of these systems unexpectingly without checking feedback scores a couple days ago, it was the Knox system with doorbell pro cam for about $155.  I have always had good experience on Ebay and didnt even dawn on me to check the feedback scores.  I got the tracking info and the package was on its way from Somerville where Simplisafe is located, a day from arriving a request to return to sender was issued. I contacted the seller, he stated a bit of trouble arised and he would have another shipped out the following day.  I still not fully aware of things, asked him to expedite shipping as I am in the process of moving and need this ASAP.  An hour later, I get an order cancelled and then a refund was issued.

Then I started looking at the available systems and started noticing the 0 or 1 feedback scores with feedback saying order canceled or sketchy seller, etc.

It sucks, I really wanted this system but I don't know how they get Simplisafe to ship it out, the ebay seller makes $140-180 for a few clicks and the order is sent, its chance whether or not simplisafe catches it. Also, like the buyer who did get his system. Simplisafe has no recourse to come after you, you could have bought the system used on Craigslist from someone else. They could NOT monitor it i suppose but that's really it.

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

im currently considering the purchase.. in my opinion it is worth a shot since with paypal credit the purchase is 100 percent covered against fraud anyway.. in my opinion what can simplisafe do anyway? i bought it on ebay , go after the person who sold it to me.. not my fault..
im a current customer right now with a ss2 system and when i called simplisafe to inquire about an upgrade they offered me the 40 percent off... but for the comparable system they have for the knox its 449 dollars.. do the math, even with the discount its still far higher than the direct price..
Im thinking I will give it a try and see what happens.. if i get it, i get it.. if not its covered anyway..

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

I ordered and received the Knox system at a steep discount on eBay. It came directly from Simplisafe.  I had recently purchased a system from SS but needed a few more components. I was able to add the additional parts to my existing system. I do think buying these systems on EBay is risky.  Simplisafe does have serial numbers on all of their components.  I think SS can probably turn off or disable components. The invoice had someone else’s name and email with my shipping address, pretty fishy.   They might come after me for payment if the actual buyer did something fraudulent.  In a nutshell, i wouldn’t recommend purchasing one of the systems as your security system. If SS turns off your system down the road you won’t have any recourse.

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

i also received my system and it was sent overnight from simplisafe..like you i had a different name on the invoice than what was shown as the sellers name.. with my name and shipping address. im not worried cause in the end, i did nothing wrong, all i did was buy it from ebay. they must go after the person who sold it , not me. im not worried. in the end, they want that monthly payment for monitoring

Recalled by SimpliSafe or by seller?

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

By the seller. However the third I ordered showed up yesterday. It was shipped from SS with my delivery address but the invoice and payment was someone else’s name. I think the first two orders were recalled to simply safe so the card that was used didn’t get charged, the seller kept my eBay money, and I got a refund. This last order arrived because the seller didn’t care that the card got charged. I think they’re using stolen credit card numbers to order the equipment from simply safe and then returning the product before it arrives to the buyers house so they can use the credit card again

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

They are putting tracking and listening devices in these systems before sending them out. Once the system is installed in your home they then are able to listen in from the base and even see you from the “free” camera. They will use frequencies to hack all your mobile, and Bluetooth devices because it’s all connected to your WiFi. They will use your personal info and  identity to order more devices to send and listen to the next family. If you have a keypad that lights up for no reason you probably have one of these units. They seem like they are coming from SimpliSafe but they just have SimpliSafe address. They are shipping them out via 3rd party in the same area as SimpliSafe safe. Which is why it’s showing that it’s coming from the same city and state.  Call SimpliSafe safe and see how many devices they are showing offline and how many online. Meaning if you have 3 sensors, SimpliSafe call center might show you as having 6 sensors. Why is that? Probably because these hackers are adding on additional listening devices that will piggyback off of your base station. And with that access they can go on and off line when they are trying to listen in. So be very careful people... these wonderful systems aren’t as wonderful as we think they are. They protect our homes from being  burglarized but not terrorized. I know this all sounds crazy but just the other day I saw where man walked into his baby’s room and heard a man talking to his baby from the nest intercom system. The man was also watching the baby from the camera. I don’t see SimpliSafe any different.

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

An interesting theory and probably the scariest one if true. While I don't doubt this is possible, do you have any evidence at all? Did you purchase one from eBay and determine it was listening to you, etc? If not, it's just another theory like credit card scam one. No way to know as of yet.

Anyone else able to chime in? For those who have bought the system from these sellers, any issues so far?

Re: Questionable listings for SimpliSafe systems?

I, too, would be interested in knowing if you have proof of what you allege about these systems having tracking/listening devices installed in them.  If you have personal experience with this happening then please let us know the details in order that we can be educated and make our own decisions. If you do not have proof, then please stop trying to scare people. Thank you.
