This item is FAKE

This seller has this listed as a NOS Galaxy 88 radio.  He removed the picture that proved it was fake, the photo of the rear of the radio.  This radio, if real, would have a heat sink on the rear of it. It has a tag on the back that list it as another radio entirely. A Texas Ranger but I forget the model number on the picture.

The radio functions will not match what is shown on the faceplate of the radio because this item is FAKE!!!  I have contacted the seller and got no response except the photo was removed.  A few other people I know also has contacted him and gotten no response, they've noticed the removed photo as well.

Who can resolve this before someone buys this radio and gets ripped off?

Theres a report button on every listing, but I wouldnt count on Ebay to do anything about it..they would see you as just another disgruntled seller trying to get rid of the competition,as you also sell radios. And if there is a buyer, he is covered by Ebay's mbg.

@therealporkchop:

The seller appears to have simply made a mistake, and included a photo of the back of a different radio which he is also selling. The seller has a listing for a Texas Ranger 296, which includes a picture of the back of the radio. The label says Texas Ranger 296. This appears to be perfectly compatible with the other photos and description for this radio.

The seller made a mistake and included the picture of the back of the Texas Ranger radio in the listing for the Galaxy radio. I viewed a cached copy of the Galaxy listing, and confirmed it is the same photo as in the Texas Ranger listing. When the mistake was pointed out to him, he removed the incorrect picture, which was exactly what he should have done to correct the mistake.

There is no evidence of fraud here. And of course the seller isn't going to respond if people contact him making false accusations.

Note that the seller uses a similar background for many of his photos. The photos for all 5 radios he has listed were taken with the same background. So they are very similar in appearance. That makes it easy to make a mistake like this.

Wrong. Try again.

I own a radio shop and I’ve sold many a Galaxy 88 and that radio is a Texas Ranger 296 with a Galaxy 88 faceplate on it. Not one photo of the Galaxy 88 has a heat sink on the back of it.  And that seller has it listed as new old stock, it is NOT.

That radio is fake. Somebody is going to get ripped a new one when they buy it and I get a warning for trying to bring it to someone’s attention. Ridiculous.

The seller hasnt made a mistake, he clearly knows exactly what he’s doing, trying to rip someone off.  If the item number hadn’t been removed, you could look at that sellers name and Google it. He’s notorious for just such practices. But like most places in the world, the criminal is protected, here is no different.

Again, I was only trying to bring this to someone’s attention to try to keep someone from getting ripped off and having their money taken.

Now he has a “rare” silver faced one listed. Galaxy NEVER made a silver face 88 or any other DX radio with a silver face. He is listing fake items and misrepresenting the items he has listed.

I am not selling any items on eBay and I’m far from disgruntled. I’m just trying to keep someone from wasting their hard earned money and wasted time trying to get it back.

I can’t believe I’d get a warning for doing this, I could see it if I was actually trying to just shame the seller or something like that.

A single final Galaxy, 33-44-55-66 will not have a heatsink on the rear. A dual final Galaxy 77-88-99 will. They ALL had black faceplates, chrome bezel and knobs and black case covers. The guy is a con, a snake in the grass, a liar and practically a thief.

Thanks for that info, good detective work. I just bought one of his silver faced 88's just a few minutes ago.

Well when you get it, how about you post pictures of it then, inside and out.

The pictures of his “rare” silver face 88 has no heat sink on the rear and what appears to be only one final mounting screw on the rear. A real Galaxy 88 has dual finals, 3 transistors in the rear, a driver and two finals. Also a heat sink.

The faceplate will say Galaxy on the side where the meter is also, not under the channel selector, the model number should be displayed there.
