Hate the discussion board format? Wish there was a place to have a running chat like in the old ebay chat rooms that they took away?
Here is the solution, one thread devoted to chatting about anything and everything about coins all in the same place.
Post whatever is on your mind. There is no official topic here. So let's get the chatting started.

Hola Gac: Many thanks for the link info re ancient coins. Especially regarding mint
marks. Ancient coins by themselves are interesting items. However, with mint marks
they become really interesting. Heron has always been interested in mint marks. That
is one reason for the Ching Dynasty 'accumulation' of mint marks. Howsever, although
an intense study of ancient coins with mint marks is most likely not in the cards for Heron.
That appears to be a 'lifelong' area of study. Again many thanks. Heron was not aware
that there were so many 'mint marks' used on ancient coins and it is good to know.
Always adding info into the old memory bank! Regards,
xx

Does anyone have a coin known as Sestertius Judea Capta?
Heron is curious because this coin depicts a neat palm tree. Some of the coin folks
collect coins with palm trees onnem. Heron suspects that this Sestertius Vespasian
71 AD is probably a tad bit expensive for a 'palm tree' collection! This coin is one of many
depicted in an advertisement.
Info Source: Numismatist November 2007.
I am a less frequent frequenter of this thread, bu tthe palm trees caught my eye, as this intersects with some birthyear coin discussions.
If you are collecting modern palm trees, do you have the Israel 100 Prutah from 1940s/50s? And the Dominican Republic cent? Each of these has a single prominent palm tree on one side of the coin (of course, these would be two different species: the date palm and the coconut palm respectively).

Hola TDZ - your post 31 July 2014 1935: Heron does not have the 100 Prutah Israel palm tree coin.
This will be added to the 'want list'. Thanks for mentioning that design.
Heron does have the 10 Agorot Israel palm tree coin. Purchased
early 2014 for 17 Cents, including California sales tax...!
Also purchased along with the 10 Agorot coin was a Nigerian 10 Kobo 1976 palm tree coin. This coin
was eventually 'covered' with correspondence and Heron just recently found this 10 Kobo. Cost 17 Cents.
The 2 coins above grade about VF.
However, the very best find so far this year [6 July 2014] is an Iraq 250 Fils dated 1970. This coin is
BUnc. Stands out as the best grade of palm tree coin in the 'accumulation'. Cost $9...
This coin is nickel and magnetic. This coin is KM130 depicting in the foreground 3 palm trees.
Also in the field in 'background', left & right, are rows of palm trees extending far into the background.
Heron has not counted these 'background' palm trees.
As for the Dom Rep 1 Cent, it is possible there is one in the misc. section in the 'safe'. Will check that
out.
Yes, the 'palm tree' coin accumulation is growing. Slowly, but it is growing... Another 'side' interest
in the collecting of World Coins. Someday perhaps we can discuss coins depicting camels! ha! Regards.

This is the coin and paper money chatting room. The other was originally meant to discuss happenings in coin shops, but a few posters, for reasons of their own, decided to ignore the intent of that thread and just post whatever.

Well, as there is not another camel coins thread as best I can tell, let's talk camel coins...
I have some from a nefarious-banned-by-ebay country in late 1950s/1960s. The name of this country sounds like a place in northestern France very close to the Belgian border (or a style of automobile). I have not really explored which other countries have camels on their coins. I certainly hope they are not all enemies-of-Ebay countries.
Interesting animals ...

Fantastic camel, fantastic coin (I realize "coin" may not be completely accurate). Thanks! Someone very near to me is collecting Conders now ... Mostly with ecclesiastic architecture in mind, rather than beasts, Biblical or otherwise.

Hola MCD: That Somersetshire token is the very item that started Heron's interest
in camel coins & tokens. Heron has that token but not in that super grade as depicted
in your post. Thanks for posting that! Regards.

Hola Gac: Many thanks for the 'mintmark' info. Now my question is this;
Has anyone ever made a study of all the 'mints' known? Yes, a curious
question. However, Heron has a curiosity factor. Most likely it would
take years of research to compile such a 'list'. Heron knows from his
experience collecting Holy Roman Empire coins that there are a large
batch of 'mints' located in that conglomerate of individual coin issuing
authorities. Something to ponder though ey? Regards.

Hola TDZ: Yes, Heron does have one a those Dom Rep palm tree coins! It was
probably the first palm tree coin Heron acquired. Acquired sometime during the 1950s.
Only in about Fine grade. However, it was the palm tree that was of interest!
One of many 'topicals' that interest collectors of world coins. Just for fun! Regards,
