Seeing the Marty Robbins tune makes me want to post this... I think I probably posted it before, way back.

The Grateful Dead also covered El Paso regularly in the early '70s. That's Vince Welnick on the piano with The Tubes, who became a member of the Dead many years later... sadly, Vince is now really dead.
I've been hot and cold, hit and miss, with CCR over the years... but this Fogerty performance from 1997 just captivates me - his playing and singing both:

Oddly, I watched that Fogerty / Gibbons song just within the last couple of weeks (not from here, found on my own...).
BTW, Bill, I'm with you on Melanie... I'm pretty sure I hadn't thought of that song for at least 20 years, and now it will probably take me another 20 to forget it again!
Hi Ted. Sorry that it has taken me so long to respond to your post. I had a bad fall about a month agp amd screwed up my hip pretty good, so I haven't been on the computer for a few weeks.
On top of everything else, one of my oldest friends (we have been friends for 49 years) passed away and somehow I have to make it to the funeral tomorrow.

How ya doing Southern and Lori
Hi Amy.
Well, since you asked....
Unfortunately, I'm not doing very well right now. I inherited my dad's dislike for doctors, so I didn't make it to the doctor until last week.
I had thought that I had a dislocated hip. It turns out that it is much worse than that. The long bone between the knee and hip (the femur) connects to the hip in a ball and socket connection. The ball part is at the end of the femur. It turns out that the ball of my right femur broke off completely. The orthopedic surgeon that I saw yesterday says that since I waited so long that it no longer an emergency but rather is now "elective surgery".
He is booked up until September, so I have to wait at least six weeks before he can squeeze me in for hip replacement surgery. I'm really looking forward to that - NOT!
I will try to post from time to time as long as the pain medicine holds out.
On the bright side (?) I did manage to make it to my friend's funeral with a broken hip.
So, how are you doing? Better than me, I hope.
