vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

its getting so I cant find a US seller even if I mark that in my search parameters. there will be 50 listings saying US. when I look at the delivery time frame or look at the vendor ID, it shows china or hong kong. I am starting to order more from amazon. at least this way I am relatively assured of getting what I want, when I want and from whom. it would be nice if the vendors were required to state their location and the location of the product. if it comes about that they misrepresent their information, it should be at least a 1 year ban for the first offence. permanent removal upon subsequent violation.

There is no filter to search for "US sellers." There is only a filter for the location of the item being offered.

@fvvnc_gyjkryc,

Along with the filter info @pburn  provided which is in the left hand column on a search results page and on the Advanced search page. You can filter out many chinese sellers by not using Price: lowest first or by using another filter in the left hand column to set a low price that is a discount off of what the trending American sellers can sell the item for.

You know an American seller can't sell an item that trends at say $15.95, for $4.95 w/ Free shipping.  There isn't room for a domestic seller to make a profit at that price.  So you could set the low price filter at $10.95 + S&H which would eliminate many of the chinese sellers.

  "it would be nice if the vendors were required to state their location and the location of the product. if it comes about that they misrepresent their information, it should be at least a 1 year ban for the first offence. permanent removal upon subsequent violation."

eBay's selling policy does require an honest item location.  However, they let the chinese sellers get away with misrepresenting item locations all of the time.  For some reason eBay's upper management are still under the impression that the Chinese people can afford to buy on ebay and pay excessive customs and shipping fees.  Still banking on that is why they are afraid of reigning in the chinese sellers, they think the chicom govt. will block ebay from domestic use.

So they will not take such drastic action against the China based sellers.

Below is a list of things that can identify chinese sellers. There are things on a listing page that can help, but checking feedback profile pages is wise as well.

Indications on listing pages;

  1. Item location not giving a city and/or state Ex. Ca. /USA, Many places USA, USA/USA.
  2. Extended delivery or handling time frames. Especially, from supposed U.S. based sellers.
  3. Very low prices w/ Free shipping
  4. American flag symbols and many statements of being a U.S. Seller
  5. The same photos and listing templates used by many other sellers
  6. Measurements that are both metric and inches.
  7. Use of Asian models in photos
  8. Verbiage in descriptions that do not sound like they were written by a person whose first language is English

On feedback profile pages;

  1. Country of registration ... sometimes.
  2. Very high volume seller registered between 2010 and now.
  3. Feedback percentages below 98.9%
  4. Neutral and negative feedback sometimes in the hundreds  (you can click on those numbers to read only those comments)  look for slow shipping, non delivery,  partial orders received, and items shipped from China comments, as well as poor quality ones.
  5. Replies to non positive feedback that indicate English is not the persons first language
  6. Repetitive replies to non-positive feedback

Re: vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

If eBay isn't willing to protect American buyers interests, then it's a no brainier to look elsewhere for whatever products I am looking for. I have had multiple negative experiences with supposed US inventory. I'm not inclined to spend 3 or 4 weeks either waiting for the purchase or waiting for an eBay resolution. My power is small as a single buyer, but I am not alone in this problem. eBay better decide where they stand, as almost every thing is available elsewhere. I will be buying exclusively from Amazon for the time being.

Re: vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

I agree with everything you say, that being said, it takes at least several minutes to check a vendor for those factors. multiply that times the amount of listing for a product, it can take an hour to find the product, vendor and such that a buyer is willing to spend the money and time to work with. if it takes me 45 minutes to find a legitimate vendor to purchase from, then by that time I am **bleep**, frustrated and am looking elsewhere to purchase. I love the idea of ebay, I like what it used to be, problematic sometimes, but manageable. now its overloaded with fraudulent vendors bending the lax rules set in place to govern ebay. it may be difficult for ebay to find fraudulent vendors, but it seems to me that is an inherently a responsibility of ebay. maybe they need to establish a department or division or even a crew to verify vendors and the information provided by said vendors. as a buyer, its too time consuming to try to report all the vendors or products that don't meet ebay requirements.

When faced with a long list of search results that you want to narrow down to sellers that can ship quickly, using the "Guaranteed Delivery" filter will often help; very few sellers that ship from overseas qualify. That is a rough filter, though -- many domestic sellers may be filtered out as well.

Re: vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

guranteed delivery no longer works...  search for an item and try it out...  when you get to the actual item itself that was listed as "guaranteed in 4 days", the item listing itself will change to an estimate... even if you purchase said item, it's an estimate...

  so the guaranteed stuff is broken...

 and any seller that says they are in New Jersey, but sends the item out of california, should be perm banned from ebay... period....

@exibar

I do not care about the guarantee itself -- obviously eBay cannot actually guarantee when an item will arrive. And any estimated dates are just that: estimates.

But using that filter eliminates many sellers that routinely ship from overseas, leaving nearby sellers with a history of quick delivery.

Should eBay do more to identify and penalize sellers that misrepresent item locations? Of course. Until then, use whatever tools are at your disposal to avoid those sellers.

Re: vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

that is the problem... you can try to filter all you want... but you cannot filter out intentional lies...

if the seller states in their ad that the product location is in Sayrville, New Jersey... however they ship out of Chino, Califorina...  How do you expect me to filter THAT out?

 guaranteed delivery WAS great... if a seller stated the above, and it arrived after the guaranteed date.. I could get $5 from Ebay as compensation...  I have done this a *LOT* actually... however ebay seems to have removed any guaranteed delivery status other than from the search... so it is now useless...

 do a search for

12v 3a power supply

and you see for yourself...  Sayreville, ,NJ...  hotspot for fraudulent item location... then Kentucky... then there are the California items as the next "group" of fraudulent item location ads....  they are ALL shipped out of California...  ALL OF THEM

  Please tell me how to filter out the ads that out right LIE to customers.  I'm happy to listen 🙂

Re: vendors who mislead either their location or the products location

I do not know where you are located, but the following search returns results for my location, albeit not very many since I am in the northeast:

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_nkw=12v+3a+power+supply&_sacat=0&LH_TitleDesc=0&Output%25...

If you do not see any results for your particular zip code, try a zip code closer to the center of the country, or the other coast. Just remember to change it back after searching, or all your shipping estimates will be off.

eBay's shipping estimates are based, at least in part, on actual delivery times of past orders.

If a seller routinely misses shipping deadlines due to shipping from another location or waiting too long to ship or using slow delivery services, the shipping estimates get longer and they will not qualify for guaranteed delivery.

search for a guaranteed delivery of 4 days...   select an item.. inside the item it will not longer have that guarantee, it will flip to an estimate... can't even search for that
