I ordered a hand truck last week. A few days later, the seller cancelled the order. I messaged back and asked why. I was given a story of being in the hospital and can't ship. The message told me to go to the Home Depot site, purchase it, and have it shipped to my local store. Then when I looked at my email from eBay, it said the seller said the reason was the buyer (me) requested the cancellation. I did not! I wanted the item and the eBay bucks to go with it. Now I can't leave feedback to warn others. My guess is that the free shipping was too much for the seller to cover, so they cancelled. They knew if they chose buyer requested I wouldn't be able to leave feedback. Can I do anything about it?

a seller cancelling for buyer requested doesn't prevent you from leaving feedback. It just removes it from the drop down options on the purchase history page.

go here and you should see the item in the list of items to leave feedback for.

@myangelandmyprincess Thank you--it is not on the drop-down menu, but it is there where you directed me. I have never given a negative before, but I feel this is a case where it is warranted. This was a Father's day gift item and I ordered early, so I was able to buy another one.

no problem I really dislike sellers cancelling for buyer requested to avoid a defect.

@myangelandmyprincess This is my first experience with this. Am I right that a negative is in order? It's upsetting but it's a hard decision to make!

Yes.
Also, FYI, the line about shipping being too high is hooey. That site ships orders over $49 for free, so if the seller was dropshipping from there, shipping would not have cost them anything.

Perhaps the reason may in fact be true, I would not post feedback.

ANGEL..
I AM so glad you said this buyer CAN leave a Neg for this bad seller after all. I thought I had read that Ebay was allowing sellers like this to LIE about the buyer's requesting a cancellation. And then other buyers would not be warned.

If hhe seller had choose out of stock and gave themselves a defect I wouldn't leave a neg. however choosing buyer requested when you didn't to me is a perfectly valid reason to leave one.

The seller lied about the reason for canceling. Have they been honest Then I would recommend no feedback as it stands they deserve an neg

The hospital thing might be true, but the reason to cancel was a LIE.
A neg has been earned...

the_garnet_rose,
I am going to respectfully disagree with you and I do not mean any disrespect to you whatsoever.
Since the seller stated that the buyer requested the cancellation when the buyer didn't, the seller outright lied in order to avoid a seller defect. In this specific circumstance, the seller doesn't "deserve" a neg, the seller earned a neg and I have no hesitation whatsoever for leaving one.
Seller claimed that I requested cancellation. I did NOT. Seller is disreputable.

Call Ebay. Tell CS that the seller canceled saying that you requested it, but you did not. Tell them that the seller is LYING to DODGE DEFECTS and that you are not happy with that. Put it on record. I've had to do this three times in the past year. It ANGERS me to no end when sellers LIE and don't want to take responsibility for THEIR failures. It makes all sellers look bad. Ebay's rep is bad enough, we don't need lying sellers bringing us down more.
For whatever reason a seller can't ship. Let the buyer know. Ask them if they want to cancel. Most will go ahead and ask for the cancelation. I know I will.
Tell me the truth. It's okay - stuff happens. I get it. Don't LIE to and about your buyer to dodge your own responsibilities.
