For those of you who buy old mason jars, please be aware that there are  purple mason jars being sold on e bay. These are being colored buy using xray equipment, make sure you know what your buying. : )

Look up Vasaline or mid-century uranium infused glasswear.  A little dose of controlled x-ray glass wear,  is nothing compared to what used to be sold.  Those glass sets glowed so nicely in the dark and under black lights. 

Glasswear with small amounts of uranium have been around since the 1800s.

They sell purple mason jars at Target and on Amazon. I bet there are far more of those entering the collecting stream than some that might be irradiated.

It depends -- is your concern because the jars are irradiated, or because they are not naturally purple due to age? The radiation is probably not dangerous.
(some glass turns purple with age and sunlight, and that makes it more valuable)

I think the OP is warning about rare vintage jars being faked, not residual radiation.
