mis-delivered package

Last week, I ordered a couple of items from an eBay seller. The tracking information showed that the package was "delivered" but when I went to the Post Office to pick it up, it wasn't there. They did an "investigation" and stated that they didn't know what happened to it unless it was delivered to the wrong box, and "hopefully, whoever got it will realize that it wasn't for them and be honest enough to return it."

It's not the seller's fault that the Postal Service mis-delivered the package. Is there any recourse? I'm out $25.

Re: mis-delivered package

@jocebarnhart,

Go back to your P.O. with proof of your purchase (a print out of the Order details showing your address/PO box #, or if you used a phone and the app bring that and show the clerk the order details page)  Ask them to check the tracking number for the item they can see the label's shipping address, and package type size and weight. If the label information is correct have them write that and have them open a missing package claim.  Then send the claim number to the seller with a note saying the USPS admits losing the package.  They should refund you if the claim does not find the package, and get a refund from the P.O..  Priority mail comes with automatic $50 insurance.

  If the label address is incorrect or the package type / size / weight is not correct for what you purchased. Ask them to write a note on USPS stationary stating that, and have them sign it.  Incorrect address or package info is a sign of a fake tracking number scam.  If you file an item not received dispute, it will be closed in favor of the seller, because of the tracking having a Delivered scan.

The best way to proceed is to message ebay through Facebook or Twitter. On FB use the Blue send a message button tell them that you package was incorrectly addressed or was the wrong type, for what you should have received, and then add a scan or Clear Photo of the USPS note.  I do not use Twitter but you should be able to figure out how to send them a message, and add a scan/photo.

THe reps on those sites know about the fake tracking scam and will get you a refund.

Re: mis-delivered package

I doubt the two posts have anything to do with the same package.
 Just a coincidence.
