item shipped to wrong address

Hi All,

Recently I purchased some used hard drives from a seller that were never delivered to me. After finally getting a tracking number for USPS I noticed the tracking number did not include my home address. It was very generic and just showed the package was delivered to my town. I contacted my local Post Office and spoke with the Post Master. He told me the package was sent to someone else in my town. The Post Master provided an official letter stating the package was not delivered to my address. I shared the letter (took a picture and scanned it) with both the sell and eBay and the seller refused to refund me and eBay closed my case and sided with the seller. After over 15 years of being an eBayer with a great record, I have decided it is time to close my account. I am out over $250 dollars and have no recourse. I find it outrageous that even with an official letter from my local Post Master my case is closed and I am told 'sorry". The only other thing I am contemplating is small claims court out of principle. I feel  I have been totally ripped off.

This is a popular scam. The ebay bots closed the case because tracking showed delivered, you need to appeal the case.

Read the thread in the link below on what to do next and you will get your money back...

@docgo,

The case you opened and lost should still be showing on your My ebay page and if you open it there should be an appeal button in it.  File the appeal stating the package was sent to a different address in your zip code, and post the photo/scan of the letter from your post master, if it is on USPS stationary.  If it is not you will need to get one on their letterhead to win the appeal.  Appeals are looked at by a real person, not a computer checking the tracking number for a Delivered scan, which is all ebay can do.   You do not need to use ebay's Facebook or twitter accounts to file the appeal.

Thanks for the feedback. My appeal has also been reviewed and closed. The feedback was - "the tracking number shows the package was delivered to your address". It is like they totally ignored the signed and stamped letter from the Post Master. The letter also has the Post Master's contact information. Today, I opened an issue with PayPal. I have to say, this has been a terrible experience. Granted it isn't the most money in the world but it is still over $250 dollars and I never got the (three hard drives) package. The other things that is interesting is the USPS tracking number doesn't list my specific address, it just lists my town and zip code of my town. After over 15 years with eBay and all positive feedback,  I wouldn't all of a sudden decide to try to cheat someone. This doesn't seem like a fair process for honest buyers. I also bought about $250 worth of drives a few weeks earlier from the same seller. I'd think a good seller would make this deal right given my track record and evidence. I think it is really bad business to let a good eBayer walk away after so many years of doing business both buying and selling merchandise.

USPS never shows any specific addresses, neither for the sender @docgo nor the recipient. Your postmeister can tell you that.

Otherwise anybody on Earth and on spacecraft around the world will be able to see your address using just the tracking number. So it shouldn't be interesting, nor surprise you after over 15 years.

That's fine I really don't use USPS that often. I wasn't sure what level of shipping detail it normally displayed so I did find it interesting. Anyway, glad we have experts like you to clarify.

@docgo

If you did not explain specifically to PayPal that this was a "fake tracking scam" issue, not a regular item not received claim, expect to lose again.  If you have documentation, get it touch with PayPal right away!

Yeah I don't think it is a fake tracking scam. I bought from the seller before and received the items. I think it was a simple mix up in the shipping address.

I'm pretty much going thru the same now only this is the seller who apparently wrote the wrong address on package and the tracking showed it was delivered and a photo was taken of it by delivery driver and its not even my house. I assume wrote because my address is on Ebay and it prints. Hopefully it won't happen as your case went but Ebay pretty much goes by tracking. Its needs to be taken into account that sellers can get it wrong also but its also about money and profit for Ebay so I kinda have my doubts its gonna go my way. If it does I'm gonna consider closing account and save some money or spend it somewhere else.
