Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

Hello,

I ordered a CD a on June 24, and it hasn’t been shipped yet. I contacted the seller to see when it will be shipped but haven’t heard back. Then I looked up the feedback and it was filled with neutral and negative feedback, (buyer beware all over the place!) My bad for not checking this shop out before buying the $20 CD! I then decided to cancel the order, but I got the message that it is too late to cancel. Why would this be if it hasn’t been even shipped yet? I can only cancel in about two weeks if it doesn’t ship by then. I then ordered the CD from Amazon, cheaper and should get it in two days! Why am I not able to cancel an item before it’s not even shipped? Thanks

@lloliv.com

It's not that the item has been shipped or not... it's because a buyer can't cancel an order. Sorry...

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

To start with eBay doesn't know if it has shipped or not.  They don't ship things and If a seller ships they may not mark it as shipped some sellers drop ship and can't stop the process if eBay just suddenly cancels because it doesn't show shipped yet.   so just cancelling because it doesn't show shipped wouldn't work.

Second the message is because you can only send an official request to cancel within the first hour but even then it's just a request.

Dear Friend,

Before you make the payment it is better to check the return policy of the seller . Most of sellers are demanding shipping cost from the buyer at a cancellation of an order.

You can discuss with the seller about the situation. If not succeed try on contacting Ebay.

Good luck

I haven't heard that before.  May I inquire where you got that information?

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

After buying you only have 1 hr to request a cancellation through eBay.

After an hr you can still ask the seller to cancel but they're  not obligated to cancel whether you asked within an hour or not.

What makes you think you can only cancel in about 2 weeks if it hasn't  shipped?  Do you mean if it hasn't  been received by 2 weeks you can cancel? You will report it hasn't  been received to get a refund. That's  assuming you don't  receive it.

If you receive it you can return it for a refund if the seller's policy is returns accepted. Then you will have to pay return shipping and the seller can deduct the original shipping from your refund.

You should've waited to buy another CD because you might end up with both of them and returning one for buyer's remorse might not be worth it since you'll  be responsible for shipping both ways.

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

Thanks for replying to my question. It was my “bad” for not checking out the feedback for this seller. Many, many complaints about CD cases being broken, very slow shipping, no communication, etc. I will get the CD through Amazon and if I do get the other one at some point, I’ll probably just give it away. It’s not worth my time and energy to deal with unprofessional sellers. I’ll be more careful checking out the feedback next time.

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

Sellers need to have the ability to Cancel an order, not being able to cancel is an E-Bay policy violation.

Besides: That is not the Buyers problem, it is the Sellers and if the seller needs to be able to cancel an order before shipment, including even if a shipping label is created.  Especially it is a physical item/product.  Item that has not been found, pulled off a shelf, or packaged.

I canceled an order in seconds and before payment was processed, but seller lied and said couldn't be canceled because it was shipped. LOL

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

@lloliv.com,

"I ordered a CD a on June 24, and it hasn’t been shipped yet".

If your issue is with the last seller you received feedback from, did you look at the estimated delivery dates, and the note under it saying the seller has an extended handling time and a delivery estimate greater than 12 days, on the listing?  That is why ebay will not let you open a dispute for a refund.  You have to wait until the last estimated delivery date has passed by 1 day, before you can file an item not received dispute.

"I then ordered the CD from Amazon, cheaper and should get it in two days!"

If you shop on several sites, why not compare prices and shipping times, before buying from one?

There is a huge difference between Amazon and ebay.  Amazon has fulfillment centers with thousands of employees around the country, and their own delivery system.

eBay on the other hand, has no warehouses, or their own delivery service.  The site is made up of individual sellers, and some of the very high volume ones have only a few employees. (I know of a high volume seller in my area, that only has 3 people who handle the whole operation, they all have other jobs, but have a 99.9% rating) The individual sellers decide on which delivery service works best for them, and when it comes to Free Shipping, it is usually a slower service.

"if I do get the other one at some point, I’ll probably just give it away. It’s not worth my time and energy to deal with unprofessional sellers".

If you don't receive the item after its last estimated delivery date, or it comes with unmentioned damage.  All you have to do is start the appropriate dispute for item not received, or item not as described.

   The seller has to reply to the dispute within 3 days, either by sending a return shipping label for a not as described claim, or with tracking showing an item was in the system before the last estimated delivery date. If they do not reply appropriately, you ask ebay to step in and get a full refund. You do not have to deal with the seller beyond that.

@sigunaw99,

I think you are confusing a seller's return policy that says "buyer pays return shipping" with demanding shipping cost.

  The only time a buyer pays the return shipping cost, is if a buyer receives an item they want to return because of buyer's remorse, such as they do not like it, or they ordered the wrong size and want to return it.  In situations where an item is not as described, the seller has to pay the return shipping cost.

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

Thank you, Mudshark, for your very informative reply. I actually messaged the seller yesterday asking to please cancel my order. Even though the message “this order cannot be canceled” popped up, it said to directly go to the seller to see if something could be worked out. I did that and the seller did respond that they would cancel it and refund me within 24 hours. Let’s see if that happens!

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

I should add that I usually compare prices before ordering but for some reason I was too hasty and didn’t take the time to research the item more. 😏

Please stop with the misinformation - a seller NOT cancelling a sale is NOT an eBay violation and never has been.

If you as a buyer cancel using the blue cancel button within an hour of placing an order and you have NOT paid, this cancellation will go through automatically - once paid it is totally up to the seller,

Re: Would like to cancel order, but says it’s too late

eBay allows buyers up to an hour after purchase to request a cancellation, however sellers are not required to comply with the request or communicate at all. Sending a buyer shipping confirmation is also not required by eBay.
This is what you do:

If the estimated date of delivery has passed( you can find it in the order) you can open an item not received case. To open a case go to your item in your purchase history. Click the drop down menu that says MORE ACTIONS select “I didn’t receive it” as the reason. Select either “I’d still like the item.” Or “I’d like a refund”  You can add more info in the box provided. Then send request.
The seller has 3 days to respond before you can ask eBay to step in.
Good luck.
