Why are some of my feedback dashes instead of remarks?

I can’t believe I couldn’t find an answer searching for this, but I have noticed that several of my feedback is simply dashes, in both the comments and the seller’s name. I know that I have had two feedbacks that I left someone deleted because I said “she went crazy” a long time ago but this was fairly recent and the feedback was dashes immediately.

I thought about it at the time and there was absolutely no bad or questionable transactions and I have never had to ask for feedback revision. Even feedback I have left for others is dashes as well. This is on my buyers account, I don’t sell much anymore and haven’t had it happen on that account.

Are these possibly banned eBayers? If so the comments were really quickly changed. With the recent “gimme feedback first” discussions I thought I’d ask.

No, this doesn't mean that the members have been banned or suspended.

When the comment AND the seller's user ID are blank, that means that eBay is not displaying them for privacy reasons. (The dashes are for the item title, and the price, they are always dashes on buyer feedback, they are only shown for seller feedback.)

I have seen (and it has been confirmed by eBay employees) that they  do this for some items in the category for over-the-counter medicines. I don't think it is all items in that category, and I don't know if there are any other categories that are also included.

It isn't becuase the seller is NARU, because in that case eBay puts "No longer a registered user" beside their names in the feedback list. Also, they sometimes change the user ID to a string of characters if the member asked for privacy when they closed their account.

I see three.  Any chance they were the same seller?

My guess would be that those sellers don't have active accounts on Ebay anymore.  The seller name does not even appear on the FB.  That is strange.  I'm sure it is nothing for you to worry about.  And they certainly don't mean anything negative towards you.

Re: Why are some of my feedback dashes instead of remarks?

I don’t think they’re the same seller, I think they are three completely separate sellers because of when I noticed each. Although there are several sellers that I have done multiple purchases with I had to go back (out of curiosity) and look at PayPal and found all multiple purchase sellers have my feedback visible.

I know that it’s nothing to worry about or affect me negatively, I was just totally curious and started looking into it tonight out of sheer boredom and couldn’t find anyone else who had posted about it so I thought I’d ask.

Just so odd! I know that if someone is banned the feedback stays but it shows the NARU message below it. It’s a stumper!

Gimme my feedback! 🤣

I have the same on my acct. No one has been able to answer it either. I have like 7 of these, not same sellers, not banned sellers, cannot figure it out.

Yet another glitch in the long line of glitches that make eBay so interesting?

It doesn't matter if they are the same seller or not.

It just doesn't have to be a big deal.  While I understand that FB makes you feel good about your transaction, it just is not a critical part of the process.  No disrespect intended.

FB is a voluntary system.  It is NOT a requirement.  Buyers can only receive postive FB from sellers, so chances of a seller checking your FB is slim.  However the telling thing about buyers if the FB they leave for sellers.  That can have a impact on your sellers for sure.  And for buyers that appear to be abusing the FB system, sellers may decide to block them from being able to purchase from them given the opportunity.

Yup, that’s exactly it. I have bought OTC meds lately (flu season SUCKED) so that explains it! Thanks!

If you didn’t see the little laughing emoji, I was being facetious asking for my feedback. Like I said, I was never worried and knew it didn’t affect me negatively, I was just curious and wanted to ask.

There’s been plenty of discussion lately on who should leave feedback first, most everyone but the OP of that discussion agrees feedback is pretty useless and totally voluntary, including myself.

Re: Why are some of my feedback dashes instead of remarks?

Well, I guess I need to learn to log out and use just one ID!

smigon = princess_phones

Sorry for the confusion in my reply, mam98031. I have been on eBay since last century some time but have separate buying/selling IDs, and remember when feedback actually DID mean something!

Re: Why are some of my feedback dashes instead of remarks?

In reply to princess_ phones about receiving a dash for feedback from a seller instead of a regular worded feedback from a seller, I have been wondering the same thing. This has happened to me about four times in the last 3 months and I am not very happy about it,  it makes me wonder If the sellers are just lazy or the sale wasn't worth their time to leave anything but a Dash.

In fact, I was able to figure out which seller sent me a Dash mark and I contacted him or her and asked why they gave me a dash for a feedback and they answered and I quote "hmmmm, I don't know.  Well I know one thing I won't buy from  that seller again, when can't even give you a straight answer.

So I called eBay today to ask them why I have been getting some Dash marks for feedbacks and they have no idea, NONE!  But they are going to check on it. Uh huh.

I think it looks bad if a buyer is checking your feedbacks and they see these blank feedbacks with only a dash mark and think that that might not be a good thing.  When I buy an item  I always pay  immediately so it is not because I don' t pay right away.  So I suggest if You get a dash instead of a regular that you retun the favor to the buyer with a DASH mark.

I would like a reply from a buyer who does this so I could get an explanation from them because I checked on these buyers and they don't do it for every time, sometimes they take a few seconds to actually leave a feedback for a buyer which is what they should do because I always leave feedbacks for my buyers or the people I buy from.

You really don't need to be worried about this.  Sellers are only allowed to leave positive feedback for buyers, so sellers don't really look at FB you received as it doesn't really tell us anything.

FB left for buyers really is just about making you feel good, nothing more.  I mean that with respect.  I am not saying it in any kind of bad way.

I have been getting it for almost a year now and no one can explain it. I posted here about 6 months ago, no one knew then and still happening occasionally.
