If I search "Colorado" in a sellers listings I get almost everything except Colorado.
Items I paid for last week are showing up in my cart again as "out of stock"
Your buying notifications keep telling me I am outbid on a item that has ended.
Get your algorithm in order.
Question you say?
Why if I choose to search for specifics, I get tons of extraneous noise!
That is what Amazon does.
Awful for collectables.

You've been posting on this board long enough to know that we're just members; it's not our algorithm.
As for searching in any of the collectibles categories, yes, it's **bleep** since eBay eliminated most of the subcategories. I'm sure eBay is smart enough to know the changes have gone over like a lead balloon. They simply don't care.

I know.
I respect your opinion and appreciate it.
I just hate to see it all go so wrong.
I really think that ebay should split.
They can compete with Etsy and Amazon and have the best of both worlds.
Thanks and take care.

Collectible and books are a freaking nightmare, I usually only search here in Oz and that is bad enough, I can't imagine the volume of mismatched results you get for the US.

Not sure what you mean by "split." With whom--or with what?

I had this concept on paper where eBay becomes a new and used marketplace.
If I start thinking about it it becomes 7 or 8 different independent but integrated sites.
eBay Motors was supposed to be independent at one time, that did not last long.
I know that the business trained folks at eBay have been over this.
It will be money over matter, any concepts us users have are unrealistic.
All I can say is running off the collectables folks is a bad idea.
It is not just the people like me that are interested in antiquated things like post cards,
Its the generation that likes Yeezy's and Spiderman comics.
There has to be a distinction between the import flammable laptop batteries and things of collectible value.
That's me, take it or leave it.
Have a great evening.

I think regardless of postings about eBay not wanting the little seller or not is becoming superfluous.
They are forever promoting the Handbags, Watches, Sneakers, Jewelty and HV items while the lower value items are hard to find and seem irrelevant in the ebay Grand Scheme of Things.
JMO, nothing more, (have my tin foil hat on today) but I have to say I think I got out at the right time.

Breaking up the site may sound good on paper, but in the end eBay is a business. Like all businesses, the bottom line is everything, and it would cost a fortune to split like that. Ebay determined years ago that they could rake in more fees from Chinese sellers hawking stuff (full disclosure: stuff isn't the first word that came to mind) than from the used merchandise marketplace they started out as. I fear nothing is going change that.
When I joined eBay in 1996 it was because it was rapidly becoming the main place to buy vintage Barbie dolls. I still collect vintage Barbie, just not here. The main marketplace for the hobby has mostly moved to Facebook. I think this is going to happen, out of necessity, with most collectable areas. Ebay doesn't care. It is what it is.

There was a scene in "O Brother, Where Art Thou?" where George Clooney is looking for a transmission belt, then his favorite (probably the same as all the rest) hair treatment at a rural general store. Shopkeeper states it will take "2 weeks" to get anything that is not in stock. He has a fit, he lashes out against the store owner. It is just him, the proprietor, and a couple of ladies shopping. No ebay employees, no corporate types.
Many would wish some are listening.
Unfortunately, probably not.
Does it hurt to try?
Happy holidays.

There's a wonderful quote from Albert Einstein: "Insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results." Given the outcry I've seen on all boards even faintly related to collecting, I think it's very safe to say that eBay has heard the objections. If it makes you feel better to rant, then rant away. Just don't expect that any of it is going to do any good.

Showing items not even close to the search you are doing is nothing new, that has been going on for many years.

"If I search "Colorado" in a sellers listings I get almost everything except Colorado".
Is Colorado being used as an item location, is it related to one of the Universities or part of a brand name that would be in a title? We all know ebay's search engine is screwed up, but there are work arounds you can use to get more relevant results. Given what you purchase more specific info may be needed to get better search results and checking the include description box, on the results page and refreshing it may help as well.
"Items I paid for last week are showing up in my cart again as "out of stock"... Your buying notifications keep telling me I am outbid on a item that has ended".
You are not supposed to place auction items, or items you will make an offer on in the Cart until the auction has ended or an offer has been accepted. Placing those items in the Cart, before winning freezes the info at the time you enter them. Ex: the current bid price or the asking price. The Cart only works with Buy it now items. You can place won auctions in the Cart, or better yet the wins will all show up in your purchase history in one box if they are from the same seller. You can request a combined total from there. You are probably getting the outbid notices, because you placed an invalid listing in the cart, screwing up its program.
https://www.ebay.com/help/buying/paying-items/shopping-cart?id=4360
Items you make an offer on get paid for from the acceptance notice you receive. Unfortunately, ebay has messed that up as well, forcing payment and not giving buyers the option to request a combined discount if they have multiple offers from the same seller accepted.

"If I search "Colorado" in a sellers listings I get almost everything except Colorado".
The search algorithm seemed exceptionally bad last night.
Say I am looking in a specific sellers large post card inventory.
I often search by state and other terms to narrow things down. "colorado pass" "Co Park" etc.
One nice feature, If i search "colorado" the algorithm will provide some relevant results.
Say CO, Denver, Rocky Mountain etc. when the whole term "colorado" is not there.
It was all out of whack, Search California and I was getting results for just about every other state, omitting California results I had just seen when searching the entire inventory with Sort By "newly listed"
"Items I paid for last week are showing up in my cart again as "out of stock"... Your buying notifications keep telling me I am outbid on a item that has ended"
Auctions I won will appear in the cart, grouped together.
The cart has been goofy. Sometimes items disappear then show up a hour later.
I was just a little cranky.
Thanks.
