Unscrupulous seller

Bought a trunk lid from seller . When the seller found out how much it costs to ship, the seller canceled the transaction and kept $50 stating that ebay collected a portion which was untrue. Stay away from this seller.

Have you considered reporting this to eBay? Presumably the seller cancelled the sale, thus, there was no sale; therefore, your refund should have been every penny that you paid.  eBay probably did collect a final value fee, but then the seller cancelled, so no transaction, no cost to the buyer.  Is this seller new?

Was it sales tax?

Seller doesn't get it, Ebay does and they should refund it.

IF the seller had properly cancelled the order you would have been refunded in full and the seller would have been refunded their fees. In your order details does it show the item as cancelled?

It sound like they must have sent you a partial refund. This will leave the transaction open and if the seller doesn't do a proper cancel and refund the rest, you will still be able to open an 'Item Not Received' claim when the delivery date has passed and have the rest refunded then.

Stop doing what will just make you more frustrated. Open a credit card dispute AKA as a chargeback.

@r_vedell ,

"When the seller found out how much it costs to ship, the seller canceled the transaction".

You bought from a new seller, the previous 18 feedback they received were all for buying. Checking each seller's feedback profile before buying from one can tell you if a seller is new or not and has experience shipping the items they have listed. Those are just two reasons for checking a feedback profile page.

The seller is not an unscrupulous one but an inexperienced one, who had no idea how much FedEx would charge for delivery of the deck lid. Actually, I doubt the package dimensions for the lid would have qualified to be shipped via FedEx Ground or Home delivery. An experienced seller of auto body parts would know if one could be shipped by FedEx or listed as Freight.

The seller was not lying about ebay taking a cut of the price of sold items, but they also do not know if they cancel a transaction that they have to issue a full refund. Since they obviously did not officially cancel the transaction you can file an Item Not Received (INR) dispute the day after the last estimated delivery date,  to get the remaining funds refunded.

If you don't know the rules don't play the game. Everything is documented for the sellers. If they don't read the entire sellers documents then take the time to understand your responsibilities
