Tracking number provided shows delivered but to another address with same zipcode.

I recently purchased something on Ebay and the seller provided a Fedex tracking number. The tracking number showed that the package have been delivered. My order never showed up. I contacted the seller and no response. 

So I contacted FedEx and their customer service confirmed that the tracking number the seller provided was designated for someone else with a different address from my name and address that is associated with the ebay transaction. 

It appears that the seller maybe have used a stolen valid tracking number to legitimize the transaction. What would be my best course of action to take to get my money back?

Also, tracking shows that the item was in Fedex's possesion before I even made the purchase. How likely will INR case close in my favor? Ebay will side with the seller if tracking shows delivered even though the package was never delivered to me but some other address in my area with the same zipcode?

I saw some negative feedback left for the seller but they soon got removed.

You have probably been the victim of a fake tracking number scam.  The package was delivered some where, just not to your address.  eBay's automated Item Not Received (INR) system can only look for a Delivered scan, if it sees one they decide the dispute in favor of the seller.   What you can do for items not sent by USPS is use the link below, which can give you the shipping information and package type/size weight.  https://www.ship24.com/

For packages that have USPS tracking, you need to go to your local P.O. you will need to bring the ebay order details page which shows the tracking # and your shipping address. You can bring your phone or pad if you use one to buy, or a print out of the page if you use a computer.  You ask the clerk to check the tracking info against the address on the label, and the package info. If those things do not match, ask the clerk to write a note on USPS stationary saying the label address does not match the order address, and if applicable that the package type/size/weight is not appropriate for what you should have received. USPS clerks can only give you general information not specifics. Have the clerk sign and date the note.

With that note a screenshot or scan from the link above. You can appeal ebay's decision, by going back to the dispute you opened. There should be an appeal button there.  You can also contact ebay on their Facebook or Twitter Pages. You will need the seller's username and the item number(s) of the item(s)  that did not arrive. you also have to give them your username real name and some contact info. Your ebay email address should be enough.  You can add the screen shot  a clear photo or scan of the USPS note to the claim. It can take 2-3 days for a rep to get back to you.

The information given to the original poster was based on the "fake tracking scam" typically published on this board for US buyers.  Being in your country there may be different options.  

Here in the US, if a buyer claims "item not received" for a parcel with a 'fake tracking number', they lose.  That is because the system is automated,  When using the 'chat' or 'callback' feature we are directed to outsourced out of the US call center representatives, that are only allowed to look to see that the tracking shows "something delivered somewhere", and the buyer is denied.  Appeals are usually denied in about ten minutes as well. 

That is why the links were provided to access eBay on the social media channels upthread, because they lead to actual eBay employees familiar with the fake tracking scam, and have the authority to do something about it.   See blue send message button here for this may also work for you:

If you file with PayPal, and do not mention that this is a case of the fake tracking scam instead of the typical item not received claim, the results are likely going to be the same.  You must inform them of this issue. 

The same goes if you paid with a credit card and decide to do a chargeback.  You must make it clear that the tracking/delivery was for a parcel that was not intended or addressed to you.

Thanks for your kind reply. I did those stuff and called USPS and said it was delivered to the address posted on the package which is not mine. Simple, if it's my address they will deliver. USPS said they did their job to deliver whatever address on the package. I even went to their branch to ask why they didn't require a signature. Again, another issue, it was the seller's control cos shipping was with him. It's not an ordinary toy, it's a $500+ kind of toy so he's more hungry to scam more than he can.

USPS verified, the address written on the package is not my address. Hope they resolved it. Last resort, I file a dispute with my bank institution and hopefully, they can do something. Send all screenshots to eBay, Paypal, and my bank. Just for you all to be aware too.

Thanks for your reply, I think the same happened to me. So my last resort is to go to my bank institution and file a dispute. Actually, they already sent it back to my card, and thank God it was not a debit card, it was a credit card so all fees and stuff are waived and I will file and fiel till I got a favorable decision. Thanks for your info. It will help me prove to Paypal and eBay that it is possible.

If you read trough the topics on these boards, you might think scams are out of control, but the reality is that they actually are a low number compared to the millions of items sold daily on ebay.  Your best bet for avoiding scams is to check each seller's feedback profile page, and to avoid sellers who are located in China, or have feedback for items arriving from China.

Did you contact eBay specifically via social media and provide all the documentation indicated? You can do that even if you have lost your INR appeal, as the reps you can reach via social media have more authority and latitude to deal with false tracking scams.

THANK YOU FOR THE INFORMATION.  IT IS QUITE USEFUL.  HOWEVER, IT DOESN'T APPLY TO ME IN THIS SITUATION.  THE PACKAGE TRAVELLED VIA FEDEX AND WAS DELIVERED TO THE WRONG ADDRESS.  I CONTACTED FEDEX AND THEY NEEDED ME TO PROVIDE THEM WITH THE ADDRESS AND NAME OF PARTYTHEY DELIVERED IT TO.  OF COURSE I DID NOT HAVE THIS INFORMATION TO PROVIDE THEM AND SO THEY COULDN'T HELP ME ANY FURTHER.  ON THE TRACKING INFO I SAW THAT IT WAS DELIVERED TO A DIFFERENT ZIP CODE, NOT MY ZIP CODE. FEDEX TOLD ME TO CONTACT SELLER AND EBAY WHICH I DID AT NAUSEUM WITH NO POSITIVE RESULTS.  SELLER GOT THEIR MONEY AND EBAY COULD CARE LESS.  SO I WILL THINK TWICE ABOUT PURCHASING ANYTHING FROM EBAY.

If you can obtain documentation from Fedex that shows the tracking number does not correspond to your own address, or other indications that the tracking cannot be for your order, you can appeal your case with eBay via social media and you may be able to get a refund.

You do not actually need to know the address that the tracking number corresponds to; you only need to show eBay that the address is not yours. If you provide your address to Fedex, Fedex can tell you if the address matches or not.

YES, I TOO HAD THE SAME EXACT PROBLEM...AND...WITH FEDEX AS WELL.  IT APPEARS THAT SCAMMERS REALIZE THAT THEY CAN COLLECT OUR MONEY AND THEN SEND THE PACKAGE TO A DIFFERENT ADDRESS, PROBABLY TO A RELATIVE OR EVEN THEMSELVES  AND DOING IT THIS WAY IT CANNOT BE TRACED.  AFTER UNSUCCESSFULLY CONTACTING EBAY AND SELLER REGARDING MY SITUATION, I CONTACTED FEDEX SINCE TRACKING INFO SHOWED THAT PACKAGE HAD BEEN HANDLED BY THEM.  HOWEVER, THEY REFUSED TO HELP UNLESS I TOLD THEM THE ADDRESS AND NAME THEY DELIVERED PACKAGE TO.  THERE IS NO WAY I COULD HAVE THAT INFO.  I CALLED EBAY CORPORATE OFFICE AND MOST NUMBERS DON'T ANSWER OR THEY HANG UP.  I'M BEGINNING TO THINK THAT EBAY KNOWS OF THIS AND THAT THEY ARE IN CAHOOTS WITH THE SCAMMER SELLERS.

I WILL THINK TWICE NOW OF ORDERING FROM EBAY.  LUCKILY, MY PURCHASE WAS ONLY $21.00 ITEM.  I HAVE JUST READ WHERE SOMEONE IS OUT $500 FOR A CHILD'S TOY DELIVERED TO THE WRONG ADDRESS !!!!!
