I am gonna have to side with the OP... if the cost of shipping is a "rib" it is way too high....
There was never yet an uninteresting life. Such a thing is an impossibility. Inside of the dullest exterior there is a drama, a comedy and a tragedy.

I believe the OP is saying they are not in the us and the prices of shipping from the US to them are outrageous. If the sellers are using eBay's global shipping program then yeah, they probably are outrageous.
Actually he said he’s not in Canada but his account is registered there.

The issue that arises is that the OP's profile shows that the account is registered in Canada, but the OP later claims not to in Canada. Regardless of whether or not the account is merely a posting ID, there is an inconsistency with the OP's story. Whether or not the OP resides in the USA but English is not their native tongue does not reconcile the two contradictory points.
While I'm sure that we can agree that shipping costs are high and particularly international shipping costs, I'm not sure they are a rip off (assuming that that is what the OP's "rib" is meant to be.) perpetrated by eBay.

I'm afraid I'll have to conditionally agree with the OP and some others about high shipping costs. While some of the problem is due to high postage costs that a seller has no control over. There are sellers who take the easy way out, and ship using flat rate or zone instead of calculating exact costs. Then there are those who guestimate on the high side just to ensure they do not get caught short.
Recently I had the need to replace one of the main parts of a model kit, that was in a 1956 gift set of models. The individual model itself comes in a box that is 13"x5"x1.5" and could be placed in a USPS Priority box with a minimal amount of packing material to keep the kit safe, bringing the weight in at 1lb. What I found was shipping prices that were all over the board including the sellers offering Free Shipping. (I won't get into the discussion of free shipping often raising prices by as much as 30%).
However, most of the sellers offering the item had shipping over priced between 28 to 40%. Many using standard shipping for more than the cost of expedited shipping. IMO this is being done because the higher the shipping cost, the higher the online postage cost discount. That discount can be as much as 18-20% which means the sellers are coming out ahead of what they are charged by ebay/paypal's 12.9% on shipping costs. Granted there are other costs involved in shipping, but those are often over stated as well.
Since one of the models offered was being sold by a customer of mine, I was able to calculate shipping zip to zip, and found the shipping was being calculated on the model either weighing 2+ lbs and/or a box of 18" or longer using priority, but was being shipped standard.

So are you really from the Netherlands, or Canada?
Of course shipping from North America is going to be much higher than domestic, or international shipping inside of Europe. That is especially true if you buy from sellers who use the Global Shipping Program, which has already been explained.
You can find out if a seller uses the gobal shipping program, by clicking on the Payment & Shipping tab on each listing, before bidding on or buying items from any seller. Those sellers who use the program have no control over the forwarded shipping costs. Sellers who ship directly will have lower costs, but they too will still be higher, than shipping within the European Union, because of trade and postal agreements, the U.S. is not a part of.

On domestic shipments we're not paying those high prices.
Because you are living in a foreign country did it cost a lot to ship from America to you.
Insulting Americans because you don't understand why shipping from the US to the US is cheaper than shipping from the United States the Netherlands is silly.

It is neither the seller's fault or ebay's fault. Shipping is not cheap. Costs are driven by distance from the seller, and the item's measurements and weight.
If you feel it is a rip off, and you don't like shipping, just don't buy. But if you buy, consider that you may be buying a unique item that you can't get anywhere else, and having the convenience of having the item delivered to your door.
Buy by total price.

@thallidguywrote:Sellers buy postage from the companies that deliver the packages. Has it occurred to you that sellers are simply passing along the cost of what USPS, UPS, FedEx, Canada Post charge them?
Do you understand that those companies charge based on the weight and size of the package, and not the value of the item? It doesn't make any difference whether I ship you a box full of diamonds or a box full of air. The cost of postage is based on weight and size.
With all due respect, add the words, and distance in there. The farther the seller is from the buyer, the more shipping is going to cost.
