Hi,
I am going to purchase a Sewing machine Singer model 4212 from a seller in UK.
The item described as New. I have contacted the seller and she said it was brand new, and not even used.
But by looking at the pictures, the machine looks old, I guess more than 5 years.
and the machine seems used for a while, mostly domestically.
I like the item, and the brand is very durable, and it is the European version, but how can I really know its condition before I buy?
Brand: Singer Model: 4212
Appreciate your suggestions.
Regards!

Looks like that machine was made around 2008 and it doesn't have very good reviews. It's not a " workhorse" but just a simple advanced beginning sewing machine. Lots of problems involving the foot pedal.
If I were you I would pass on this.

Hi silverstatetreasureboxes,
I actually didn't know that it is having a trouble with the foot pedal until you have lighten me up. I then looked in to it more deeply, Yes, as you said, reviews weren't satisfying.
Thank you for the advice, and I am taking it.
Are you in to sewing, I hope you are. 😃
Thanks again,
Take care, Cheers!

I used to be into sewing but for now I have 2 Janome's, 1 Brother, 1 Kenmore and a small little singer and they just sit there unused ( I know it's sad).
Glad your not going to purchase this one, I wouldn't hesitate to recommend a Kenmore as they are little powerhouses and easy to run! Best to you.

Why would you even consider purchasing this sewing machine when you have so many doubts about it?
It's not like there's a sewing machine shortage. There must be hundreds, if not thousands, listed on eBay.
Plus there's your local sewing machine store, if you have one.

In addition to the good advice already posted, wouldn't a European model have the wrong voltage?
220 vs 110?

OP is in SriLanka, I don't know if they need a European voltage or not.

The pictures are your very best indicator of the condition. If it looks old, then it most likely is.
I have found A LOT of sellers to be ABUSING the "new" descriptor and misleading buyers. I cannot possibly see how this would work to their advantage as when you listing something as new and the buyer receivers something that is used you are only going to disappoint them and set yourself up for what could've been avoided if you just described the dang thing accurately.
I do not understand why it's so hard for someone selling something to accurately describe it. Sure they want the max money possible, but selling a Pinto and calling it a Ferrari does not a successful sale make.
Anyway having said all that, if the pictures aren't good enough you can try to message the seller and ask for better ones or more details. I've found that small sellers are much more polite about that thing then people selling a lot of items as they probably receive a lot more mail about things.
If you're unable to get better pictures and the ones you see do not look that great then your instinct is probably correct about the condition. Move on to something else.

Do you have a Kenmore model you recommend?
I have been watching/stalking this Kenmore Elite 385, but it is a little out of my price range. My Mom had this same machine - it was great to use.
Kinda want a free-arm, but not a deal breaker. A case would be nice. If you have a fav model, would you share what that is? TIA
