Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

I recently purchased a gaming mouse on March 23rd and it was supposed to be shipped Prioirty Mail. Asked the seller for a few details on the item and when it would be shipped. Seller stated it would ship the 24th. Didn't get a tracking # until late at night on the 25th. Item was shipped out the 27th (listing stated 2 business days to ship after purchase).

That itself didn't bother me until I saw that it was shipped Media Mail and wouldn't arrive until April 2nd plus the mouse can't be shipped that way.

Now I am worried I may get stuck with postage due or USPS returns the item. I asked the seller if they were aware it was shipped incorrectly and the possibility of owing postage. No response after 24hrs.

I'll wait to see if it arrives but Im unsure of what to do after that or what feedback to give. The seller has 100% positive feedback so this is quite strange. Not happy about this at all.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

I think you are worrying for nothing. I doubt you will owe anything. What day does it say on the Ebay shipping details page that it should arrive ? Getting the tracking number late at night does not mean the seller shipped the next day, that is when they entered the tracking number. If it arrives by the due date and you owe no postage give them their positive and forget about it. There was no need to message the seller.

@themousemechanic,

"I recently purchased a gaming mouse on March 23rd...  Seller stated it would ship the 24th...  Didn't get a tracking # until late at night on the 25th. Item was shipped out the 27th (listing stated 2 business days to ship after purchase)".

If you purchased the item later in the day on the 23rd, a Friday, the seller shipping on the 27th is 2 business days after receiving payment. (Saturdays, Sundays, & National Holidays are not considered by ebay as business days).

"it was supposed to be shipped Prioirty Mail...  I saw that it was shipped Media Mail".

That is a policy violation, and after receiving the mouse, you should take it up with them. You were charged for priority mail, and that is the method that should have been used. Depending on the package weight you may have paid more for priority than media mail. What was the last estimated delivery date on the listing page?

"Now I am worried I may get stuck with postage due or USPS returns the item. I asked the seller if they were aware it was shipped incorrectly and the possibility of owing postage. No response after 24hrs"

Unfortunately this is going to be a wait and see issue.  The USPS, has tightened up compliance with their shipping policies.  If tracking shows the item is returned or it shows up with postage due, and the seller isn't willing to do anything about it, file a dispute with eBay.  If the shipping cost isn't on the label, you can back check it by using the USPS calculator.

The item is supposed to arrive today and I highly doubt it will. It's the shipping method that concerns me.

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

It was purchased early Friday morning around 2am EST so technically it's 3 business days I assume. That part doesn't bother on it's own. It just adds to a bad experience. Media mail can't be that much cheaper than First Class on an item weighing less than half a pound.

I do appreciate your info.

An 8-ounce package would cost $2.66 via MM and $3.18 via FC. I'd be super-annoyed, too. You can file an "Item not received" claim tomorrow.

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

First thing to do it advise your PO about it.  They may contact the sender's PO and have them deal with the seller.  Think about how bad you want this widget though because they may return it rather than deliver it.

You can Neg the seller, but don't count on any action about a Policy Violation against the seller.  Staff has been waffling back and forth recently about whether service downgrades even matter at all or not.  I'm not really sure where they stand on it today.

I would absolutely not talk to either PO before having the package in my hands.  It's a good way to end up with a headache over Postage Due or no mouse.

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

I agree! It doesn't make any sense. I could see if it was a heavy item.

Maybe I'll hear back from the seller. I guess it could also be a mistake.

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

USPS has a system now to  check the package,if it has insufficient postage,it will charge Ebay and Ebay will charge the seller account .

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

selling on Ebay is not wildly profitable, sounds like the seller is trying to make a little more by using a cheaper method to ship.

but he should use first class mail, not media mail as a mouse is not a book

Re: Seller used Media Mail for computer mouse

It’s not a policy violation to ship media when the listing states priority. Per Trinton the shipping method is not part of the item description and the seller can use whatever method they deem most appropriate. If the item arrives later than the latest delivery estimate than eBay considers the late delivery=SNAD and the op can return for a full refund.

BRIAN...

If  I were  you,  I would be really ticked off with this  Seller!   She knew you  were concened about getting  this quickly.  So she really  should  not have sent   this by such a slow method!

I hope MUDSHARK is  correct  and that this IS  a Policy Violation.   But--just in case--do not mention   the shipping  issue in  any Neg you might choose to leaveSmiley Surprised

As others have said--do NOT  report this to the PO--at least not before you  receive it.  Or--  it  be intercepted--and sent back to the Seller.

I do not understand why ANY  Seller would  do  this  to a  buyer.   Smiley Frustrated

The Automated Package Verification (APV) system can detect when the postage doesn't match the package weight and dimensions, but it does not include x-rays or other capability to distinguish whether the item inside a package is eligible for Media Mail.  That still has to be done by actual human beings, so will still result in  old-fashioned Postage Due.
