Seller send wrong item and refuse to accept his mistake

Hi All,

 I ordered an item from eBay of around $900 price. After 3 days, I received the package that had totally different item of price around $10 -  $20. I send a message to seller with the image of item I received. Seller immediately replied that this is not the item he send me, he also send me the image of original item next to the envelope that has my address on it. But this envelope looks different than I received. He keep refusing that he send me wrong item and calling me scammer and telling me that if I am sending the item back it should be the original item that was ordered not the item that I received. I start a return request but I am not sure how to properly handle this. I want my refund.

When you started your return request did you choose that the item was not as described as the reason? If so then you need to stop corresponding with the seller. EBay will give the seller three business days to send you a return label. If he doesn't, on day four you'll be able to go back to the case and ask eBay to step in. They'll send you a return label. Return what you received, and once tracking shows the seller's received it you'll be refunded.

Don't worry that the seller is claiming you did a switch. In 99+% of cases eBay takes the side of the buyer.

@atiah66,

In the future do not buy expensive items from (0) feedback sellers.  If they are legitimate they may still run into problems many new sellers have when they start selling.  If they are a scammer, they will try to talk you into giving up your ebay Money Back Guarantee protections.

It seems like you may have been confused about how to handle an item not as described case.

There is no reason or need to contact the seller.

Please read eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers.

Make sure that you take it to the post office and get it scanned.  Follow the directions on the Ebay case. If they ask for the tracking #, give it to them again even though technically if they sent the label , they have it but ebay always makes people jump through hoops.   Do NOT buy expensive items here from new sellers.

After you get your refund, see if you can post a negative.  Do NOT mention refund.  Just write'   " Seller sent the wrong item on purpose.  Avoid!"      This is statement is like the kiss of death.  No one will bid on this scammers ads.

@ms.rodriguez*,

Technically once a refund has been processed the listing becomes unpaid, so a negative feedback cannot be left.  That's how the high volume scam sellers are able to maintain relatively high feedback percentages, unfortunately.

The seller has sold 7 items and left feedback for them, but has not received any in return. They also do not have any items listed any longer, so they may be on their way to becoming NARU. So even if @atiah66  left a negative now it may not matter.  But it may stick.

Feedback for unpaid can only not be left when an unpaid item case was opened.  Refunding does not prevent a negative nor constitute as a reason for removal. The only sellers who can get negatives removed for refunds is sellers who have free returns or top rated with 30 day returns.

Wondering @atiah66 did you get a USPS return label which you can take to a post office, or a FedEx label?

Also, does it say Signature confirmation/required on the label, since it's for over $750?

Yes, I got a USPS return label from eBay and I send the item back. There is no mention of signature required or anything like that on the return label.

Just as there is no insurance, there also is no signature  with Bay USPS "return service" labels.

 If the label was provided by the seller, then the seller is responsible for the item .

The only part of this I would quibble with is to add people who know how to game ebay's feedback system to the list of sellers who can get feedback removed.  Some sellers are able to talk ebay into removing feedback on very flimsy pretexts.

While you and I seem to generally agree on most issues, I am actually I am in a little bit of disagreement with you on this one.

I had this happen to me a couple months ago (me being the seller). A buyer messaged me and sent me photos of an item claiming I sent them the wrong item. The item they showed was not what I sent (but a similar item). They were adamant that was what I sent, I was extremely adamant that was not what I sent, showing them photos, measurements and also giving them the dims of the package sent. After several back and forths I get a final message apologizing profusely for their error.

Had they opened a return request (whether the item was returned or not) this would have damaged my seller metrics. Crisis averted on that day because the buyer communicated with the seller before rushing to the flawed MBG system that penalizes sellers just by a mere request being opened.

It's because eBay requires signature confirmation on transactions $750 or more for the return package.

The eBay-generated RETURN SERVICE label would say SIGNATURE directly above the barcode.

Please come back and update us @atiah66 however this turns out?
