Seller promised refund if I would remove negative feedback, I said no and they still removed it

I bought an inexpensive item from eBay seller and I was unhappy and so I left a negative review. The seller requested I remove the feedback. They promised that I didn't even have to return the item. I refused. They sent an email with a return tracking number that I didn't use.  Once the dispute time was up and I refuse to return the item because I wasn't asking for a refund. I wanted this review to stand. eBay removed my review even though I didn't accept the sellers resolution. If I had known that my review wasn't going to remain in order to warn others about the shoddy product, I would have returned the item and got my money back. Nice little scam they've got there. Keep in mind that if someone has 11,000 positive reviews and zero negative, they have cracked the code of how to get away with selling you **bleep**.

@floofy2023,

"The seller requested I remove the feedback. They promised that I didn't even have to return the item".

According to your topic title they also promised a refund, which is a policy violation called feedback extortion.  A seller cannot offer a refund if a buyer changes their feedback.

"They sent an email with a return tracking number that I didn't use... eBay removed my review even though I didn't accept the sellers resolution...  If I had known that my review wasn't going to remain in order to warn others about the shoddy product, I would have returned the item and got my money back".

Your feedback was removed because you did not accept an ebay legal solution. Had you sent the item back, your feedback would have remained even if you did receive a refund.  If you try to leave a negative feedback after a refund is issued, you may not be able to, because the item becomes marked as unpaid.

"Nice little scam they've got there. Keep in mind that if someone has 11,000 positive reviews and zero negative, they have cracked the code of how to get away with selling you **bleep**".

You really should start checking each seller's feedback profile page before buying from them. Never go by a feedback percentage alone. If you go to the seller's feedback profile page, you may see that out of the 11,000 feedback received in total, only a small number are from the last Year.  Feedback percentages are based on feedback received in the last 12 months. Some sellers mostly those from China use several accounts to sell on, they will switch between them if one's percentage drops too low.   Some sellers volume is so high that even with over 1,000 non positive comments they still have a high percentage. You can click on the numbers of neutral and negative feedback received to read only those comments.

Thank you for the information. I just have one question about the middle paragraph. If I accept a refund, I don't get to leave the feedback. I didn't accept the refund. I bought an item that was substandard and I left negative feedback. Period. Did not ask for a refund. Only wanted to leave my negative review to warn others because packaging a $7 item and driving the package to the shipping center only to be later told that it arrived damaged, was not worth it to me. Because the seller contacted me requesting I remove the feedback in exchange for a refund, that apparently started the process that I had no participation in and yet resulted in there being able to remove my feedback. I don't get it. And i don't understand your explanation. So basically any seller who doesn't like the negative review only has to offer a refund upon return of the item in order to get the negative feedback removed.

The seller is Top Rated and accepts returns, they offered a resolution to your issue, you refused it.

This is why the FB was removed, what more could the seller have done to keep you happy?

You seemed to be more concerned about leaving a negative feedback than accepting the sellers help to make things right.

Thanks for posting

What do you mean? Did the seller just sent you a message? Or did they send you a feedback revision request? Or did you open a return request for the item being damaged, and they sent you a message through the case?

It sounds like you opened a dispute, seller provided a label, and you didn't return which resulted in the case closing the sellers favor which made your item eligible for automatic removal.

Glad this extortion was removed.  When buyers are refunded (good or bad, especially when buyers threaten), they shouldn't be allowed to leave any feedback, neither nor, not ever.  They got their dough back, seller received the item back, transaction closed, opinion thus immaterial.

So you think that selling a shoddy product is okay as long as those that take the time to complain accept a refund. I wasn't going to spend the time and go through the trouble of trekking this thing back to a return center for $6 item. Don't sell **bleep** and you won't get a negative feedback. My solution was not to send it back, don't accept the refund, be out the money and give negative feedback. That should have been accepted.

They sent me a feedback revision request and told me I don't even have to send it back. Then they sent me a return label which I didn't use. I told them them that I don't accept their solution.

No, I never opened a dispute. I left negative feedback. They just sent me that email. I responded, No. They opened the feedback dispute. I still said no.

I never asked for my money back. Don't accuse me of extortion when you can't read and comprehend the contents of a paragraph. I never got my money back. And my negative feedback was removed. Try rereading or do you just want to insult people. Have a good day.

So you were offered a resolution by the seller and you refused.

It is not okay that seller has substandard product BUT  that is only your opinion isn't it

We all have our standards . Not everyone has the same standards.

When you receive a product you do not want (for whatever the reason, you open up a return claim and get your money back, that is they way it works here

If product is really substandard seller will get lots of returns and seller will lose money instead of make money

You just wanted to  have the seller's reputation damaged by leaving negative no matter what seller offered.

Well I am sure the are a lot of sellers who will be extremely happy you posted  on the board

Thanks

Isn't it possible that a seller who has 11K positive and 0 negatives has been an outstanding eBay seller?

You make it sound like sellers with high positive FB #s are all scammers.  We both know that isn't true.

If the item was so very shoddy then I guess it was shoddy enough to keep it. When EBAY REMOVES a neg it is practically an act of God.

Them sending a return label and you mention dispute time was up in your op make it sound like a return request was opened, the seller send a label and you didn't return ?   How'd they send a return label without a return request?
