What recourse is there for a seller that cancelled a sale after the bidding was done & paid for. I received a refund, but this does not seem right. They claim it was beyond their control. I'm afraid to leave a negative reivew because they may retaliate & I have a 100% rating myself that I don't want ruined.

If it was too low, Seller should have used the appropriate tools of having either a higher starting bid , or a reserve level.

Depending what option he used to cancel the seller received a defect. Sellers havent been able to leave negative or neutral feedback for buyers for eleven years.

My suggestion is for you to move on. After all, the seller cancelled the listing and you were not given a reason. Perhaps the final bid was too low.

Perhaps by leaving this seller appropriate feedback that will Hopefully help motivate your seller to not allow things going beyond their contol in future.

I would just take my chances. Leave the neg. The seller will be punished a little by e bay will not get their fees back. But it is wrong if seller dose not honor sale. Just cancel. Even if they buy from you and try neg. If you get e bay will remove if the buyers name same as the sellers that done this to you. Just see where they live and be on alert if you get neg from that location. I would defiantly neg them. And I care about my ratings lots and bunches also. I hope you do not run into. Not honorable seller again.

The probable reason the seller gave for cancelling would be "Out Of Stock".
This automatically gave him a Defect.
Defects lead to higher selling fees (up to 14% of selling price), restrictions on the number and value of his listings, and eventually closed accounts.
You can leave appropriate feedback. The most effective feedback is calm and factual. "Cancelled claiming out of stock" if that is the whole story. Or "Cancelled claiming out of stock Relisted at higher price" if that is accurate.
Sellers have not been allowed to leave negative feedback for over a decade. Only nothing or positive.
False positives can be removed if the buyer complains and the seller gets another Defect.
Before you buy in future, do look at FB. Any rating under 98% is terrible. And read the negs and neutrals. The occasional neg is not a problem, stuff happens. Look for a pattern of complaints about poor quality, cancellations, slow shipping, etc.
