When I end up on a listing from a seller I've bought from before, I see the message saying I've bought from them. I want to see what it is I've bought from them (in case they were a problem seller or maybe a seller Ihad a good experience with). Is there a way to see what the prior purchase was without manually scrolling through my purchase history (if it's still there)? Why isn't this a shortcut when the "you've bought from this seller before" message appears?

No there is not a short cut and there will not be one. You can go to your feedback profile page and what item you have received feedback for from the seller.

I double checked by clicking on items from two sellers 1 from over 60 days ago, and another more recent one. On both searches there I saw "A seller you've bought from" message, but not a box with a link like the one downunder-61 posted from the Australian site.
@downunder-61, Did you see that on a listing or a store page from a seller you purchased from less than 60 days ago?

If you save the seller you are wondering about, then go to your saved sellers, then scroll to the seller in questions name you will see what you bought from them.

That's only true if the purchase is still within the purchase history window. If it was longer ago than three years eBay no longer has it.

The easiest solution: Simply copy & paste the seller's name in your e-Mail's search box to sift through your record of invoices and history of eBay receipts.

Very easily actually if you're on a Windows computer.
You go to your feedback page, and click on all feedback.
Then on your keyboard, click on ctrl F
A window will open. Type the name of the seller in that window.
There is an up and down cursor in that window, just click on the
down cursor until it stops on the seller you've been looking for.

You go to your feedback page, and click on all feedback.
That only works if the seller left feedback.
Try this:
https://www.ebay.com/mye/myebay/purchase
If you click on "See orders: All" you can click the dropdown box and go through purchases by year:
