Refused package

Today I went to pick up a package at my local post office and the lady working there handed me two packages. I was confused so I opened one of them and realized it was a package I refused a week prior so I took it back inside the post office and told them I received it by mistake and to return to sender. In this instance should I have paid for return to sender postage? The postal worker told me it wasn’t necessary but i wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered to not potentially get in trouble with ebay. The seller already gave me a refund so I wanted to make sure they get their item back

Refused package

Normally, a refused/RTS item is a win for the seller because buyers lose protection by refusing packages.

But since the seller had already issued a refund to you, you had nothing to lose by refusing it.

Opened packages are not supposed to be returned without the appropriate postage being paid when sending back. If they knew you had opened it they did you a favor. If they did not know that your opened it then they did as they would do with the refused package.

@henckel15,

Why did you refuse the package in the first place?  By doing that you voided your Money Back Guarantee (MBG) protections, and were actually not entitled to a full refund.   Since the seller did refund you, you weren't under any obligation to return it, but it was good of you to do that.

I feel I left some context out so I apologize for that 😅. The reason why I was refunded was I thought the mail lady delivered to the wrong house and they handed it back to return to sender but instead they were confused with a relative that moved back in and thought I didn’t live at the address.

The seller refunded you when the package was Return to Sender, so losing MBG coverage is irrelevant as MBG was never invoked.

So it doesn't matter after the refund whether @henckel15 keeps it or returns it again, opened.
