Received a message "re:request to cancel this order" but I didn't request it yet.

I bought an item and received it. But it doesn't match the description and I wrote to the seller. For now I'm just going to discuss the problem.
And I see in the messages his response with the topic "Re:request to cancel this order".
But I didn't request it yet and I don't see it on the "My Requests" page.

What's that?

Don't know what all that is but what you need to do is

1.) don't email the seller anymore

2.) open an official 'return' for reason of 'not as described'.

When you sent the seller a message “Request to Cancel” must have been the topic you chose when sending the message. Which is why your seller responded in a message  header that starts out with Re: Request to cancel.

If you've received it, it's too late to cancel the order. Go to your Purchase History and press the big, blue 'Return this item' button. Follow the prompts, confirm and submit your claim. Your seller will either send you a return shipping label and will refund upon its return or (quite possibly) refund you without requiring a return. Good luck.

Go to your purchase history and click return item and select, the item doesn't match the description as the reason.
The seller will have 3 days to accept the return and pay return shipping or refund without returning.
If they don't, return to the case on day 4 and ask Ebay to step in.

Have a great day.

@alexfre_5517,

The seller sent the message requesting You to request cancellation, in order to avoid action on ebay's part that would affect their account.  All you have to do is what all the others have suggested cease contact with the seller, and  file a not as described dispute.

It seems you are right (
Maybe I've chosen this topic myself when corresponding to him.

I can't say I insist on returning. I've lost time already and don't want to lose it again ordering the same item. I'll be satisfied with a fair partial refund. What do you advise to to undertake in this case?

I purchased an item for 39.95 plus 43.99 shipping fee.

I later received an email from them stating the item had been returned to them

and would need me to send another $36 in shipping outside of eBay, to their PayPal address

Received it the other day and it is damaged

I want a refund for INAD, but if I do it through eBay will they only cover the 89.82 through ebay?

Or do I skip them and open a PayPal dispute so that the full amount I paid, 125.82 is covered in the dispute?

You have 2 separate payments at PayPal. A dispute for each at PayPal would require that you return the single damaged item, each with a unique tracking number to get its refund i.e. 2 different tracking numbers.

To get a refund for the payment on eBay @amame-203 you can click RETURN THIS ITEM then select the Arrived Damaged reason, and suggest that the seller offer a partial refund, no return required, to close the case with that refund.

After that you can try an INAD at PayPal for the additional shipping amount, and suggest that the seller refund rather than require a return. Then if they won't, file a chargeback with your card issuer if that's how you paid at PayPal, and if you explain the INAD to the issuer you might not need to return to get that refund.
