As it is now impossible to easily reach a sentient being at eBay, I'll float this here... A "Rate this item" 1-5 stars was added to the Feedback page--  for the past week, I have been unable to supply feedback without checking a star. Often, it is difficult to rate things that can only be evaluated with use; the only time this is possible in a timely manner is if the buyer is already familiar with the item. If the requirement for this additional attempt to gather data is not removed, I will either check "3" every time, or stop supplying feedback altogether. Thanks.

@buyselljack2016

I do remember when it was announced.....some cheery person or some such talking about a new exciting addition to feedback coming our way.  Of course, during that time (or ever since that I can tell)  they never said it was going to be required in order to rate the transaction.  I am going to look for a recent post that shows different screenshots that are displayed as well during the feedback "experience" when a product review is enabled.  The part where you put in the comments to rate a transaction that are populated to the feedback page of the seller is titled TELL US WHAT YOU LOVE ABOUT THIS PRODUCT.......   You fill that in with "the movie really was stupid" it is going to show up on the seller's feedback rating.  Maybe they are going to get rid of those seller ratings anyway, or eBay should file SNAD on the company they use to program this new "journey".   "Seller did not ship" type comments will be no more  LOLOL.

Maybe it makes sense to eBay, and that is all that counts.  I was just curious as to why it is required at this point.  It seemingly annoys people who want to leave good feedback for their sellers.

Here is the thread I was 'remembering' in my previous post to you.  There are plenty of screenshots throughout and a recap of when this was announced in a recap of podcast or something.

The link to that thread with the podcast transcript is what I would have replied with @ittybitnot but you found it yourself.

Re: Rate this item

To previous posters, I remember something weeks ago in some segment called xxx with Griff, they had some woman on 'xplaining that eBay was not getting 'nuff product reviews and this was an exciting addition to the feedback process to increase the product reviews participation. There is a link to that discussion in a community thread  somewhere in the past 90 days.  They should have nixed the idea then and there and just increased the visibility to buyers that we can review products we have purchased, maybe.  It has ALWAYS  been a pain to even access the "write a review" process on anything we have purchased when a buyer desired to review same, and then the selection of what we were allowed to review  has been limited to ONLY what eBay has wished comments on, NOT all purchases. eBay should never think without adult supervision.

Re: Rate this item

Thanks    And the threads on community about the faux pas  began in earnest on 04/25 and even ebay community staff have commented thereon in the April discussions but it is still a big MESS for users.

 Hi,  you still have an opportunity to express your thanks to a seller for a positive buying experience by use of  ebay messages,  & not leave transaction feedback to avoid ebay's required rate this product

Hope this will be of some help

Yes, wastingtime101, there used to be a link to tell eBay directly what we thought of changes--  but not anymore!

Re: Rate this item

That's incorrect in my experience.  I have several outstanding seller feedbacks I would like to submit - all of them REQUIRE a product rating.  The Leave Feedback button is not active until a star is selected.  So they just sit.

@transamcc

Sorry I missed your post previously.  eBay has been known to make things MANDATORY for programs  that suffer from a lack of volunteers.  Case in point the latest auto-enrollment for all sellers to bill their buyers for shipping at the discount rate.  At least, for those that got the memo, they can un-enroll.  Not for this, though.  I am an avid buyer here, but never saw an independent place to give a product review anywhere.  Likely because I don't buy "New".

Re: Rate this item

Used to be after checkout at order details display, sometimes there would be an invite to "write a review". Upon choosing that selection to write, there would be additional items shown that one could also review. Also when viewing a listing, there would sometimes be an invite to write the first review, or upon viewing existing reviews on a listing an invite to write a review yourself. In 18 years of buying here and the sporadic nature of the invites from eBay to write, I have produced somewhere around 100 reviews on products that I have purchased.

Exactly , you avoid ebay's requirement to rate the product by not leaving  feedback

Ebay can't force you to rate the product.
