Vehicle is for sale at price A.

I offered price B.

Seller accepted offer at price B.

Now, there is a line through price B and it shows item sold for price A.

I asked seller to clarify. No response.

Did the price just change after the seller accepted the offer?

I think they're no longer showing the reduced price that an OBO item sold for. How much are they dunning you for?

Seller.       Vehicle for sale for $5000. Or best offer

Buyer.        I offer $1021

Seller.        Accepts offer of $1021

Buyer.        Feb 21.  11:10am  "Hello. Will this vehicle make the drive to (buyer's town and state)

Seller.         "  "           12:33pm.    "Yes, it will.

Buyer.         5:03pm.   "What is the next item needing attention on this vehicle?"

Seller.          5:04pm.     "Nothing mechanically. It needs a passenger side door panel clips. That's it.

Are you going to buy it? I'm gonna put it back on my page if not. "

Buyer.       Feb 22.   4:12am.      " I show (screen shot) that you accepted my offer of $1021 but recently noticed a

line  through that number and now the add shows purchased for $5000. What

                                                             happened to the $1021?"

Buyer.          8:49am.      " I need your address so I can make arrangements to transport myself to your location.

                                              Thank you. "

11:23am           " I would like to pay you in person when I pick up the vehicle. "

Seller               12:33pm.         "How much are you paying me?"

Buyer.               2:05pm.         "$1021 After vehicle inspection. eBay gives me right of refusal. I've purchased a few

                                                        cars off this site. "

Seller.               2:06pm           "I just got an offer of 4800$"

                            2:06pm.          " I'm good.

                                                          Have a good one tho"

So, it appears to me the seller accepted the offer but then changed his mind. What confuses me is how the numbers on the auction got changed after he accepted my offer. This has occurred before with another seller. Wondering how they do this.

Meanwhile.......Ebay messages me.  " It looks like the seller is still waiting for your payment. "

Perhaps eBay can contact the seller?

Ebay contacting the seller will do nothing. Vehicle sales on eBay aren't binding on either party. The seller can walk away at any time, just as you could. As for the eBay message, you can just ignore it.

@ubcensored,

When a when an ebay vehicle listing has Best Offer on it and one is accepted, you may have to pay at least a deposit forming a contract, for the seller to hold it for you, until you inspect the car.  Otherwise they can accept offers from other people.  eBay Motors vehicle listings on eBay are not run under the same rules as other ones.

I don't believe he was asking for a deposit. In our communications he indicated he received a better offer and "was good".  What I'm concerned about, is a line was put through the amount he accepted. Then another price was substituted for it.  That just strikes me as fraudulent.

Your answer makes perfect sense. I'm just concerned that a price was changed after the fact.

After giving your answer some thought, I suppose I need to approach this differently. If the seller has no intention of accepting my offer, (despite accepting it), then I can offer much more money, then "negotiate" when I get there.   The model leaves opportunity for bad faith all around. Nothing I can do about it. Guess I have to start thinking like a player. Thanks for the answer mudshark.

You offered $1000 on a $5000 car?? That seller is NOT either selling you the car at that price, or is a scammer not selling you ANYTHING at that price. Why in the world would you even offer 20% of the selling price??

Overall, looks like the seller has no clue (as do most) how the 'offers' work and never intended on accepting that ridiculous offer in the first place....also: items like that 'Autos' are not binding at any price anyway.

I make offers all the time through multiple formats.  Sometimes they accept it. (Yes, it really does happen) Sometimes they counter offer.  (Remember those days? when people negotiated?). Sometimes they want to know how I come up with a number. They want to know my algorithm so to speak. Sometimes they want to fight or be obstinate. That's their prerogative.  A simple no works wonders, but some folks feel the need to give lectures.     There's all kinds in this world.

1st; you've NEVER purchased a car for 20% of the asking price.

Never.

Sure, you could say you did but anyone reading this knows better.

Getting an offer like that would be

a.) insulting to the seller

b.) make the seller think you are not serious, which apparently you're not.

c.) those that 'wonder how you come up with that number' is simply someone being nice, but what they are REALLY saying is 'are you out of your mind?

Why would you waste peoples time like that?

Everything I've stated is true and correct. You are someone who wants to give lectures. More power to you.

Additionally, the 20% also applies to items other than cars. Been doing this a long time. I come from an economically depressed area. Low balling and bartering are a way of life. A simple no works. Arguing your point and calling me a liar only elevates tensions.  I've run into your kind before. Have a nice day.
