Payment on ebay motors

guys - do most sellers accept credit card payments on ebay motors? I'm looking for something in the 25k range and read that you need a business paypal account to send payments over $2000 - if that's right, will I incur fees just to send money?

Thanks

NO. Most sellers do NOT accept credit cards for this kind of purchase. And are you aware of paypal's policies? They exclude vehicles from buyer protection and it does NOT matter what kind of account you have--you CANNOT make a $25k payment through paypal. $10k is the max. Most sellers would want cash, certified check OR bank transfer. You also need to read the ebay vehicle purchase program if you haven't already because there is basically no buyer protection.

@iodlee,

If you have a credit card with a limit high enough to be able to charge 25K, your credit rating must be great. In that case, you should be able to get a preapoved loan to buy a car, then you could get a certified check or do a bank transfer.

However, before the bank would allow you to make a payment, They may want some documentation, of the cars condition, probably starting with but not limited to a Carfax report.  That may not be enough either, they would probably want a report from a qualified vehicle appraiser as well.  That is something you should consider, since the listings telling you the car will be shipped, and you will have X number of days to inspect  the car, and be able to return it are scams.

No reputable seller would deal that way.  They might want a refundable escrowed deposit to show good faith, on your part. However, they would allow for a vehicle to be inspected before shipping it. Why would they risk having to pay the return transporting cost, if the sale fell thorugh?

You wouldn't be able to do that through eBay. The seller would also have to send 5 different PayPal invoices. And I don't think any seller would agree to take 5 credit cards in this situation.

If you're the buyer, NEVER do that. Send a small deposit of $500 or so via PP. Take the rest in the form of a cashier's check to be handed over in person when you pick the vehicle up after inspecting it.

OK kids, time to get the Dodge loaded up again. I hear 'Poppy's By the Tree' calling. This trip might be a long one too.

@iodlee - most business would not accept payment like that commonly referred to as a "split payment," because one of the payments could fail.
