Has there been any serious discussion from ebay of adding a feedback category about the quality/security of packaging? When buying, I would much rather have that info than any of the current four categories (except maybe accurate description). I am amazed how items that are extremely condition-sensitive are sometimes tossed in an envelope with nothing to protect. Maybe that's not a major concern for others.

No, even if there was, those star ratings are meaningless superfluous information. They don't count against a seller in seller performance metrics or dashboard.
Those star rating are subjective and often times buyers don't even deal with them when giving feedback, I skip them myself when giving sellers feedback.
It isn't a major concern since eBay has the eBay Money Back Guarantee if there's a problem with an item.

The DSRs as well as the stars are useless and not used by Ebay to evaluate seller performance.
Some sellers and buyers think they have value but another DSR will be another unrepresentative subjective evaluation by someone who does not understand what they are evaluating.
Packaging need only be good enough to prevent damage of that particular shipment. If it isn't, sellers can be rated on refunds due to shipping damage.
Not every package needs to be bulletproof. Many buyers fail to understand that good enough is good enough. Over packaging wastes time and materials and drives prices higher.

My post stated "items that are extremely condition-sensitive". Thanks though

You always can note any frustrations or complaints about your experience with the Seller via Feedback.
As a Buyer, i frequently will contact the Seller before the sale (or before it ships) to make sure it is packed properly so it arrives safe. (specifically higher value items or fragile items)

I've found most experienced sellers pack well, it's usually the clueless newbies that lean toward the moronic shipping strategies, like tossing a scarce item in a legal envelope with no protection. As @chevymontecarlo88 stated, you can always voice your displeasure in the FB comments box.

For what it's worth @clevelandspiders , I agree with you.
I think eBay should remove reasonable shipping cost DSR and replace it with how well the item was packed for shipping.
As a buyer, if I look at a seller's FB and glance over their star ratings, I'm not going to take ship cost DSR seriously because a) most buyers do not know what shipping actually costs and b) I can see ship costs for myself on every listing and c) with eBay International Shipping sellers have no control over the international shipping costs. Reasonable ship cost is an antiquated DSR rating.
What I cannot see without reading through FB comments is how well the seller packs.
In fact, since eBay has been very focused on FB lately, I will ask kyle@ebay if he can pass on this suggestion.

Hey @wastingtime101 I'll be glad to pass this suggestion along to our feedback team!

There are probably a lot of us concerned about packaging. I sell books, mostly common books, but I wrap each one as if it were 'fine china.' I always try to tell myself to shorten up the time it takes me to wrap, but I just can't help myself. In 20 years, I've never had a single complaint about damage, but I've had many compliments about my great packaging. I think many buyers do appreciate it. So it does bother me when I get something sloppily wrapped. Although I agree that not everything needs to have bullet-proof wrapping, I still like to see a little bit of care going into it.
Amazon is actually the worst. I received a small glass jar, sent in a tyvek envelope, no bubble wrap, no nothing .. I could hear it rattling all the way up the stairs. needless to say, it was in 1000 pieces!
I agree with @chevymontecarlo88 that you can & should express your frustrations/ concerns in your feedback. I do glance over feedback when buying, so many other buyers will also take notice.
