My package was delivered to wrong address. Anything I can do?

On May 1st I bought 4 rolls of Duck Brand shipping tape.  It never arrived and there was no tracking number, although ad said shipping with USPS Priority Mail.  Since then I’ve sent 3 messages to the seller asking for tracking info…no reply.  So I contacted EBay about the problem, got an email reply that eBay would contact the seller.  3 days later I got another email from eBay asking if I had heard from the seller.  That was yesterday (May 17).  When I checked the tracking it now shows a tracking number that was entered on May 15, and a long list of tracking entries that are bizarre, on the 3rd through the 5th of May…showing my item was delivered at 12:49 AM on MAy 6th.  I took all that to the post office, and the Post Master confirmed that the package was delivered to a different address in my town, and he said I had most likely been scammed.  He could not/would not give me the delivery address.  Is there anything I can do?  Tracking shows delivered, but it wasnt delivered to me.

Here’s a screen shot of the weird tracking info.IMG_0165.pngIMG_0166.png

Re: My package was delivered to wrong address. Anything I can do?

Honestly, it appears that there were 2 different packages using that tracking number. But I am guessing that if it was delivered to another address in your town, there was either a typo on the label or the USPS screwed up.

I think the scammed issue is unlikely. You think this scammer has someone in your town that he's working with to accept these packages?

Also, is your mailbox at your house, or do you have the cluster mailbox unit where a lot of them are together? (In which case it would be easy for the carrier to put it into the wrong box.)

Something is strange here, but I would file an INR and let it play out.

If the postal service misdelivered the package, they should go and retrieve it.

@dk0

If @kath.layn  files an INR with eBay, the buyer is going to lose.

The postal worker already told the OP that the parcel was not intended for his/her address. It was apparently not "misdelivered".   The seller just used that tracking number to prove delivery to eBay and their CS reps.

eBay only accepts a copy of a written document from the post office confirming that the tracking number provided was not intended for nor delivered to the OP.  They do not need to know or provide the exact address of delivery.

They would need the same or similar information if they filed with PayPal or their credit card.  Otherwise, if a claim is made for INR with either of those entities, ebay responds with the same old fake tracking number that shows delivered and the OP will be denied again.

I saw where he said it was delivered to a different address, but didn't see anything that said it was actually intended to be delivered to another address.

Must have missed that.

@dk0,

@kath.layn, wrote that their postmaster told them the package was addressed to another person in their town.  What they will need to do now is to go back to the P.O. with their order details and ask the clerk/postmaster to write a note on USPS stationary stating in general that the order detail address doesn't match the address on the label, and if applicable that the package type/size/weight is not appropriate for what they bought, and have note signed by the clerk.

When the original item not received dispute is closed in favor of the seller, there is also an appeal option.  A clear photo or scan of the note can be attached to the appeal, and it will be reviewed by a person, not a computer, and a refund will be authorized.

Re: My package was delivered to wrong address. Anything I can do?

Here is the quote from the OP: "the Post Master confirmed that the package was delivered to a different address in my town".

If you guys see somewhere the OP says it was "intended" or "addressed" to someone else, kindly point it out.

What I am trying to say is that if the Postmaster only checked to see where it was delivered, which they can apparently do because GPS coordinates are recorded when a package is scanned as delivered, it may have been addressed correctly, but delivered to the wrong location. I have seen this before.

If it was actually confirmed that it was delivered as addressed, then that is a different animal.

I'd also want to know how it got scanned as delivered one evening, then again the next afternoon.

In order to file an appeal, it won't matter how the package was addressed

Proof (tracking) that it was delivered to the correct zip code is all the seller needs to win the INR case. But if the buyer can get the p.o. to give him documentation that it was delivered to a different address within that zip code, that would prove to ebay that the INR is valid and they would likely issue a courtesy refund.

This could either be an honest error (misdelivery) or a fake tracking scam.
