Just had a problem with auto pay.

Auto pay didn't take into account combined shipping and auto paid for the items. Not every seller is going to be able to figure out how to properly set up combined shipping. Why not at least give the buyer time to use the tools EBay already provides, specifically Request an invoice.

And, now I've had to contact the seller requesting an adjustment. These adjustments have to be madeto 7 separate charges.

@rastersoftware

Auto pay voids the possibility of requesting a combined invoice.  A seller cannot send one nor make a business policy that will do it.

The requirements were placed on seller's accounts to require this by eBay with a default to YES.  They didn't bother informing anyone.

It is not until your (un)lucky day that eBay forces your ID into the program with the "new smoother checkout" nonsense that it begins to affect you.

Some sellers have turned them off when they noticed they were no longer getting offers, or many listing were closing without bids at all.

Buyer Payment Requirements

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they place a bid.

*Require buyers to provide a payment method before they make an offer.

EBay has proposed this as a solution to non-paying buyers, instead of getting rid of those who don't pay.  In this scenario it may discourage buyers that DO pay since the option to combine items for one shipping cost is removed.   Buyers pay more, sellers pay more, and eBay makes more money.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

IF the seller combines shipping it is very easy for them to refund the extra shipping.

It is best to ask the seller in advance if they will combine shipping on multiple items.

It does not have to be done to 7 seperate charges.

The auto payment is still a work in progress ...

Buyers all want ONLY non payers to be included but eBay allows buyers to be "guests" and make new account whenever they want.

Hopefully your seller combines shipping for you.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

I'm not against auto paying, but give the buyer time to request an invoice or whatever.
If no action has been taken in 48 hours, or whatever, initiate the auto pay.

@rastersoftware

Auto pay MEANS YOUR PAYMENT SOURCE is AUTOMATICALLY CHARGED at auction end for the full amount.  Buyers no longer get "time".  That is the whole point.  Ebay says it is for the "buyer's convenience".  LOL.

But it's costing the sellers extra paypal and ebay fees with multiple separate transactions. I don't know why a seller wants to pay more.

@campanaelia   It does not cost the seller extra fees.

Paypal is not an issue for sellers since eBay stopped using them, on the sellers side, years ago.

eBay refunds the sellers fees when the seller refunds the buyer.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

I just got a message from the seller. He will have to refund the shipping on each item. The system would not let him refund a total amount.

So are you saying ebay and paypal don't charge a fixed fee per payment?

Last I checked ebays fixed fee is $0.30 and PP is $0.49. The way I see it those separate charges will cost the sellers extra fees when making a separate payment for each item.

I'm also aware ebay started prorating the percentage part of their fees on 5/23/22 for partial refunds, but paypal did not. So besides the fixed fess mentioned above, paypal is not refunding any fees to sellers for refunds.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

@klhmdg

Ten auction wins to the same buyer have a 30 cent transaction fee on each one ($3.00).  If those ten auction wins were combined for one price the seller's fee would only be for ONE transaction at 30 cents, saving them $2.70 cents.

@rastersoftware

You would be correct.  Using the example of ten listings again, for say postage stamps with a $2.00 shipping fee on each, postage charged to the buyer would be $20.00.  The seller cannot simply refund 18.00, and has to go in to all those transactions removing/refunding the $2 charge on nine of them to combine them in one parcel.

I suppose they could go through and refund only $1.70 to cover the extra .30 eBay assessed on each...LOL... However, there is no requirement that says the seller has to refund anything at all.  I wonder if eBay will remove the red donut reviews from the seller's profile that are likely to result.

@campanaelia  eBay does not use Paypal for sellers fees anymore.

There is no PayPal fees for sellers.

eBay now has managed payments.

You are at least 2 years behind in information.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

@rastersoftware  Im unsure what your seller saw but I just did this for 3 items.

I combined shipping for all 3 items. Bought 1 shipping label and then went in and refunded the shipping overage. The system took a percentage of the refund total off each item.

@klhmdg

Were these for auto-pay items, or simply for example, a buyer that paid in one payment from their cart that included shipping on each?  The auto-pay system would generate separate transactions, individual transaction numbers that were paid for at different intervals.

Re: Just had a problem with auto pay.

@ittybitnot  - Yes all paid individually. The system did not combine shipping. Different transaction numbers.

I saw that they were shipping to the same name and address and combined them.

Had the buyer contacted me I would have made 1 listing for all items but it was really not a big deal to refund the extra shipping.

Then sent a message to the buyer that I had refunded the extra shipping paid.

@klhmdg

Thanks for your reply!

So these were auctions?  Multiple accepted buyer generated offers?  These are the only two that are affected by auto-pay.  Which were yours?
