I puchased shoes, under 175 dollars, which means in mass, my residency, they are tax exempt; but instead ebay charged me sales tax. I need to figure out how to get a refund of this charged tax.

What shoes are tax exempt?
What category were the shoes listed in?

Were you having the shoes shipped to a state that collects tax on shoes?
What type of shoes did you buy? In Mass, shoes that are strictly for athletic use (cleats, ice skates, etc.) are taxable.

eBay tries to observe the details of each state's sales tax exceptions, but they cannot evaluate every individual listing so they based their sales tax collection on the category in which the item was listed. For MA residents, listings in the regular shoes categories won't be taxed, but eBay will charge sales tax for items listed in other categories, ranging from Collectibles to sports gear.
