I keep seeing the same scam auctions over and over

The same scam seems to show up over and over. It is listed as a one day auction but the description says " all bids will be cancelled this item is for buy it now only, contact me at the email address below to purchase". The auctions always have a very low starting bid on an item worth thousands of dollars.

I have seen this same scam for months now. Usually several thousand items have been added to a sellers acount. They are always for one day and always list the same price.

They are in many different catagories.

I send a message to the seller and report the auction to Ebay and they are removed.

But they show up again in different seller acounts again, sometimes the very next day.

Yes, I see the same bogus listings too. They get whacked fairly quickly.

Yes. High feedback sellers with good ratings, suddenly listing $1 million worth of stuff in categories they’ve never sold in.

@thatsallfolks,

Hijacked accounts may have belonged to a seller, mstly casual ones, but most are buying only accounts with 1 transaction in the last 6 months or year, all other feedback is over a year old. Suddenly listing items at very low prices, w/ extended delivery times.  Those using hijacked accounts do not want to take the chance that a once active seller might still get notices if their username is used.

@outdoorphotonut

The other signs are there too, 1-3 day auctions of an expensive item listed at a very low price, with an extended delivery time, sometimes they are completed through eBay other times you have to contact the seller off ebay via an email address in the listing.

Another variation is a low but not so low price on an item Ex;(digital video camera) 1-3 day auction, average price $2500+, starting bid $1,000 but as soon as a bid is placed the bidder is contacted, and asked if they will buy it for the starting bid because the seller "is afraid of scammers". of course the buyer is asked to complete the transaction off ebay at that price so the seller won't have to pay the fees.

eBay cannot possibly monitor all of the new listings posted daily on the site. The one good thing about the type of listing you described, is that ebay will take action quickly if you report the listing for Listing Practices > Buy off eBay.

Other reports do not get quick action, especially if reported by only one buyer.

That’s not the pattern here. Thousands of one-day auctions on active selling accounts, with contact info and a warning that bids will be canceled. In and out quickly, with all transactions taken off eBay.

Some times people have to take some responsibility for themselves.
