Okay so I know this has been talked about, but here goes.
I was bidding on a collectible card and the last seconds, I bid one price and then bid again, but overbid by $900. The card went for less than $20 and of course I was the top bidder. The problem is I have a defected keyboard that doesn't type keys unless you press hard enough and I pressed the period button real fast, it didn't work I overbid by hundreds when I did not mean to. I should have lost the auction and that is okay. But I did not mean to bid that much over to win. I stopped at a few dollars before and gave up the auction.
Now I cancelled immediately and the seller said "Unfortunately, the seller let us know that they can no longer cancel this order."
I totally get the inconvenience for the seller. I know exactly what this is all about and time is money. But I do not want the item and I refuse to pay at the price it ended at or buying it and then listing it myself. If I have to get a strike, I guess I will embrace getting a strike. Now how do I refuse to pay and how long before Ebay marks me down for it? Can I still contact Ebay support to step in because this was an honest mistake and maybe not getting a strike? I don't want to hear how I am heartless or I caused a problem for the seller because it was not on purpose. Some buyers do this and do not mean at all to do it. This is another reason why if someone cancels right after winning a bid, the next buyer up who bid should automatically be given the rights to winning the bid.

Sellers are not obligated to cancel the transaction. The seller can file the Unpaid Item Dispute as early as 48 hours after the end of the auction. You will then get 96 hours to pay, or not. At the end of 96 hours the seller can close the case. S/he gets the FVF credited and you get an UID strike. One strike won;t hurt, but if you get another in the next 12 months, you will find yourself blocked from bidding/purchasing from sellers who block buyers with 2 or more strikes.

The seller is not responsible for your defective keyboard.
You should pay the seller !
You should also purchase a new keyboard before purchasing anything else on an auction site.

The seller is not required to cancel a transaction if you request it. It is totally their prerogative if they choose to do so. However, failure to pay for your purchases violates the UA.
Of course, it isn't the seller's responsibility to make sure a buyer's equipment is in proper working order when the choose to purchase something from them. I believe that there is a line in the movie, "Jurassic Park" that sums things up nicely. "I don't blame people for their mistakes, Dennis, but I do insist that they pay for them."

"Officer, I'm sorry I ran down that person in the intersection, but my brakes have been broken for months. It's not my fault!"

Since it sold for under 20 I'd consider yourself lucky since you bid 900 it could have been worse for sure
