Hurricane Lane

Anyone selling or buying in Hawaii will probably have a mess on their hands this week and into next -- Hurricane Lane is approaching the islands.  Earlier, we thought she was just window-shopping, but it seems she wants to examine the goods a little closer than we like stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes

Re: Hurricane Lane

@airsheep,

Aloha, I hope the track keeps Lane off shore, but hunker down anyway.  I was on Kauai in `92 for Iniki, which made a 90 degree turn and slammed into us with very little warning from the Hurricane Center.

Stay safe.   Do what they tell you.  Hope it stays on a low path and if you have to see anything, it's just a brush of the way outer bands.

Re: Hurricane Lane

Been there, done that, here on the east coast.  Absolutely no fun.  Take all precautions, be safe, come out of it alive and well.  Posessions can be replaced.  Humans cannot.

grin

Just got an FedEx Service Alert about Hurricane Lane this morning.

As others said, stay safe (and watch that the volcano doesn't sneak up on you while you are watching out for the hurricane)

Re: Hurricane Lane

Madame Pele is taking a rest after having enlarged the Big Island by a couple of square miles last few months. Personally, I'll take my chances with her rather than the hurricane.

@airsheep,

"Madame Pele is taking a rest after having enlarged the Big Island by a couple of square miles last few months".

 Madame Pele one fickle wahini. Try offer Ti leaves an one bottle gin, fo cover da bases.  Maybe neva work fo da kine Hawaiian Gardens sub, but mo betta you try.

Seriously though, I hope you're located on top or near the  top of a ridge and not in one of the valleys, or close to the shore. The amount of rain and storm surge they are predicting are going to cause serious problems.

With Iniki, there wasn't much rain, it was the 225mph winds (last recorded velocity before the Navy base's weather tower blew away) that did all of the damage. I've never heard sounds like that wind made before, and hope to never hear them again. Noho pelekana.

I was on Maui and Kauai  back in 86 ,, so I guess I left in enough time . Beautiful places though . I can't remember which island it was   but I remember crossing 80 bridges  just to get to one spot . That was a journey . Tulips

Re: Hurricane Lane

That was probably the Road to Hana; 56 one lane bridges, but arguably the most scenic road on the island. Pack a picnic lunch and be ready to either spend all day getting there and back again, or camp overnight.

@etacarina11,

You may have a long wait, depending on where in Hawaii your seller is located.  The winds have slackened but the storm has slowed down, so flooding and landslides are going to be the biggest concern.

Yep thats it !   the road to Hana ,, on most bridges if two cars were trying to pass  one had to pull over to let the other go by . We got there and made it back in one day . However  I remember it being 80 bridges ,, has that changed since then ? Anyway we took 5 rolls of film  of some of the most beautiful places on those two islands . I also remember another place we stopped at ,, I believe it was called the Grotto ? Large water filled cave with hanging foilage where  you could walk  all along the edges . Right outside the cave were  several small and very shallow blue ponds filled with some of the cutest  little frogs  I'd ever seen . I could have spent the rest of my life there . Tulips
