Like with Amazon, I want to do it once instead of having to manually enter it each time I buy something.
From what I googled it is not possible. Seems rather primitive, but hopefully I am missing something.

The first time you use a gift card it will be permanently attached to your eBay account and will appear as a payment method when you checkout in subsequent purchases, until it has a zero balance.

I've run into the same problem again since I posted this question two years ago. Is there no way to add my card permanently WITHOUT having to first make a purchase with it? Gift cards are so annoying because you always forget about them and lose money. I want to enter the card into Ebay as soon as I get it. Not wait till I am ready to actually buy something .

How the hell in the year of our lord 2024, is there still no way to just load a gift card to your account without an initial purchase?
Its basically the most basic function for any online service, its no longer the year 2004, these things shouldnt be a hassle.

So if you don't want the hassle why not get a credit card or checking account? They are not refillable so why would eBay want to go through the hassle of saving them before people use their GIFT card, the vast majority shoppers of don't use them and holding the GIFT card in hand would be inducive to shopping, spending with wild abandonment!

That's why the companies that issue gift cards love them so much! It's free money for them when they sell them and the card is never used.
