How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

I saw there was a long pre-existing thread for this shut down a year ago, thought I'd resurrect it.

I want to buy a red double duvet cover.

That's all. It doesn't need to be at all fancy. I know I can buy one in Argos for £13 and avoid Ebay entirely.

If I search on Ebay, filter on buy it now, sort by lowest price + P&P, filter on UK and 'Click and Collect', there are still thousands of results and they're nearly all, quietly, listings with variations where there'll be a pillow case for a £5 or something to bring down the price that's shown on the search results screen.

Any idea how to just find the cheapest of what I actually want?

Don't really want to talk about the morals of Ebay doing this, or whether it's 'illegal'. Just - how to avoid it.

Interesting approach.

It does however put a huge load on eBay servers if you are querying every search result (up to 200 per page) for content - that may not go over well.

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

That's true. I did try to minimize the hits by excluding the known range pricing, but maybe it'll motivate them to make a more friendly interface to address this issue.

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

Just added a check to use the previously fetched results if they were already run, so that will also reduce the server load.

I just implemented the sort order option so now it lets you sort by either high or low price of the price range of the items being offered, in addition to seeing what items are being offered in the search listings. As a bonus, it's also helpful when searching by relevance or ending soonest, as it will sort using the prices of the results for that page for easier browsing. It may make ebay more useful in the results they present, and giving more options for sorting and filtering is always better to empower the shopper.

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

At this time, what is the best option for not displaying the ranged listings. I am very frustrated with trying to search. Am looking for the most recent and best option at this time. I've tried some of the scripts, but so far haven't had much luck...

best option for not displaying the ranged listings

berserkerplanet's script is what I have been using lately, and it has worked very well for me:

https://community.ebay.com/t5/Bidding-Buying/How-to-EXCLUDE-listings-for-multiple-items/m-p/29635477...

Use the first code block -- the one without the comments.

I made a new bookmark in Firefox, right clicked on the bookmark to open "properties", pasted berserkerplanet's code into the "Location" box, removing the "X". Renamed the bookmark "no var2", and moved it to my browser bookmarks toolbar. When I encounter a search result that has price variation listings, I just click on that bookmark, and it makes those listings disappear, replacing them with a text link.

I really appreciate this, thanks, and just to say that it works on Dissenter which is a fork of Brave too.

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

This has been infuriating me for months! Buyers are what made eBay the company that it is today, and they are siding with the Chinese con artist sellers.  The only thing you can do now is search for the item you want with highest price selected in the filter,  choose one of the way overpriced items, and then scroll down on the listing page until you get to the window that says "more like this".  Keep choosing the lower priced item that is the same as what you want in the more like this section each time you find a lower price item and eventually find the lowest price item.  This is absolute bull**bleep** that we have to do this as buyers but it works. **bleep** you China!

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

Too much work, breaking my balls! If eBay doesn't want my money then I'll spend it somewhere else, but I'm not spending forever and a day searching through hundreds of misleading Chinese listings to simply find the lowest price item available.

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

Just found this thread after posting my own out of frustration.  I'm going to start calling ebay customer service - repeatedly - and complaining about this one issue.  I would ask that anyone who is also frustrated by this to do the same.

So our terms will be consistent, when describing the listings I would recommend using the phrases:

  • listings with multiple items
  • listings with price variations

And the violations committed are:

  • Search and browse manipulation
  • ?
  • ?

Any other suggestions?  Does this sound reasonable?

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

Yes the search manipulation madness is still irritating as all get out, but now I'm pulling hair out by the clumps over seller fees and why they can't come out of the sale price of an item before eBay even releases the funds to PayPal..  As opposed to their current method of waiting till the middle of the month then automatically deducting the grand total from my bank account via auto pay without notice, hence causing overdraft fees.  Getting F'd financially on both ends rotisserie style by the bank and eBay. Paying money to ship my items to people is just great!

Re: How to EXCLUDE listings for multiple items

Oh sweet a whole thread on search variation **bleep**. This has been irritating me for years! Sorting through hundreds of Computer Memory listings for a specified memory capacity, but instead you get every price and capacity under the moon. It's impossible to find the cheapest single capacity without browsing through HUNDREDS of listings which is just so painful.

@back2denali You can include multiple listings of the same products with different variations, basically spamming the "shelves" of eBay with total garbage. Literally shelf space at this point, same **bleep**, slightly different label, or different accounts with identical listings and identical images and identical content, computer memory is ESPECIALLY bad for that in my opinion. Thanks,
