How do I get an unpaid item removed?

I recently contacted a seller when an item had not arrived after 5 weeks. The seller refunded all of my money. The last time I did this (a couple years ago) I found that by refunding my money the item got flagged as an unpaid item.  I now have one of those in my summary.  How do I get that removed since the item was never received but the buyer refunded my money?  Also why do they get flagged as unpaid items if the seller refunds the money?

Thank you.

Every purchase transaction is eithe r'Paid" or "Unpaid."  There's no option for it to show as "Refunded."  Technicaly after a refund the item is indeed unpaid.  This is not at all the same thing as getting an unpaid item strike, and there is no need for you to pay any attention to it.

The only way it affects your account is if the seller files an unpaid item case against you.

Re: How do I get an unpaid item removed?

This thread came about as a result of a reply to my earlier thread today.  I am finding that selecting a buy now option gives me an error saying:

"Sorry, the seller is not accepting bids or offers from you at this time.
  • This may occur for various reasons. For example, the seller might have a limit for the amount of items that can be purchased within a given time"

One of the causes, I was told, is because sellers set requirements that the buy have no unpaid items.  Because I now have the one unpaid item I can't make some purchases.  That is why I was asking how I get this unpaid item flag removed.  In short,  it apparently does make a difference.

Thank you.

That's not the same thing.  Same word, different function.

There are other reasons for blocks.

You can’t get it removed. And it has absolutely nothing to do with the error message you received. Sellers can block buyers who have a certain number of unpaid item STRIKES. You get a strike if an unpaid item dispute is filed against you and you don’t pay. The refunded transaction here is NOT the reason you got that error message. The seller you are trying to buy from has blocked you. You’ll have to contact them directly about this. They can put you on their exempt list if they wish to sell to you.

Sellers can choose to block bidders who have 2 or more unpaid item strikes in the past year.  As noted elsewhere, your unpaid item is not the same as an unpaid item strike.  This seller has blocked you for some other reason.  Perhaps he just doesn't want to take a chance that another package sent to you will get lost.

In your very own words  "The last time I did this (a couple years ago) I found that by refunding my money the item got flagged as an unpaid item."   you answered your own question .

Re: How do I get an unpaid item removed?

You are seeing an Unpaid Item.

This is not the same as an Unpaid Item Strike.

Sellers cannot see either the UID or a Strike.

If the seller has you blocked, or if you cannot bid, there is some other reason.

For example, the seller may not ship to your location, or you may not have an active Paypal account, or the seller may have you on his personal Blocked Bidder List.

A seller must have TWO Strikes within a year for the strongest Block. When one of those Strikes wears off, 12 months later, she is no longer Blocked.

One and only one Strike can be removed by eBay, in a lifetime. The idea being that the deadbeat buyer has learned from the error.

Re: How do I get an unpaid item removed?

OP, I've had this happen as well and it is annoying when you know it is unpaid through no fault of your own.

Don't worry~it will drop off after awhile.  Just try to not let it get to you before it does.

Re: How do I get an unpaid item removed?

It would be nice if it did not appear as an unpaid item, given the circumstances, but it is what it is.
