How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

I made three offers yesterday to a seller on three of his items, all accepted later.  When I went to pay I found out they were automatically paid.

I vaguely remember setting up this automatic payment option last time I made an offer, but the offer was rejected so I forgot about it.  Now seeing how this works, I no longer wish to use the offer or buy it now again.  I don't want to go and make 4 offers to one seller or to 4 sellers, and have these 4 transactions split into 4 separate orders.  I journal each order into a PDF and now instead of one PDF per order with a number of items, it's all separate orders.  I would have preferred an option where if an offer is accepted or a buy it now item is selected, it doesn't auto charge, but it gets put into the cart, and the buyer can add as many items as they want into the cart, and there is a time period (say 24 hours) where the buyer must pay or the items in the cart will self cancel, and for an offer that was accepted and not paid within 24 hours resulting in cancelling, as a buyer you do that X times and you get a flag as a bad faith buyer that sellers can see.

So where do I go and disable this automatic payment that I previously set up on Best Offers, I looked around and can't find it.  Please help.

How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

You can't because it is set by the seller.  You can ask the seller to put you on the exemption list but they are not required to do so.

The exemption list does not apply to autopayments @ebooksdiva so individual buyers cannot be excluded from autopay e.g. for a combined shipping discount.

Now to delete the automatic payment method @miamicuse  you can find this page at Account settings > Payments.

Also, eBay allows one hour to manually pay for all items won, before the autopayment is made.

You can't and in my opinion as a seller this is one of the best things eBay has added in the past few years.  I almost have zero unpaid items anymore, and guess who the unpaid items come from?  The international buyers who do not have automatic payments set up or domestic buyers who use a form of payment that is declined.  Luckily this seldom happens but the rate of nonpayers from transactions that aren't automatically charged is probably close to 25% nowadays.

@xadexane

Incorrect...the OP is referring to the automatic payment set up by sellers to require a payment method prior to making an offer. Buyers can't disable it.
What you are showing is payment method shown when making a purchase.
Even if the method of payment was deleted. Sellers who require a method of payment prior to making an offer would still be automatically paid for when the seller accepts the offer.

How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

Thanks, I found this payment setting.  However, is this the payment method used when I normally pay for an item?  or is this the automatic payment when Buy It Now or Best Offer is used?

I have the payment method set up for many years, and when I pay for items, usually after placing multiple items into a cart so I can check out as one order, I use this payment method via Paypal.  Paypal than ask me which card to use etc...

When I recently tried to use Best Offer, it says some additional steps are needed to allow auto charging of the account, and I think I set something up but that best offer did not pan out.  Now whatever I had set up I want to reverse it.  I don't want to control what sellers do, whatever they do is fine none of my business.  However I want to go back to when I try to use Best Offer or Buy It Now, I want ebay to tell me oh no, can't use this feature unless you have autopayment set up, that will be a reminder for me not to use these features and just use ebay for "normal transactions" only from now on.  I do not want to buy multiple items and have each item counted as an individual order which these features force them to.  Waiting for an accept/decline and pay within an hour is not an option to me because many times I make an offer and go to sleep for the night.

Yes this is the "How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?"

that is "Used for offers and auctions" to automatically pay for accepted offers and won auctions.

After you disable this payment method, eBay will again require autopayment to be set up each time you try to place a bid or make an offer with autopay sellers, reminding you to just use "normal transactions" only from now on.

And when you do, you're simply asked to select a payment method at Checkout in the usual way, not that automatic payment method which you've disabled.

None of the replies so far understand your issue. I think you want to have accepted offers somehow put in a cart so you can pay once, or even combine shipping.  However, eBay doesn't allow that with or without automatic payment, although I too wish it were so. Each accepted offer has to be paid and shipped separately.

How is that, @stevescho?

Without automatic payment, each accepted offer will wait in the cart, to be paid individually or in several or all at once, or even with a combined shipping discount if any from the same seller.

Actually, OP asked: How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

Which was answered -- how to disable (remove the previously set up) automatic payment method.

On the face of it this makes no sense. You are making the seller's problem the buyer's problem, effectively saying we are all a bunch of cheating **bleep**s that don't pay.
In addition, if I win 2 or more auctions from the same seller, where the seller offers combined shipping, I no longer have the option of waiting for a combined shipping invoice.
I've been on eBay since '99, I've bought tons of stuff in the last 25 years either through auction or BIN options. This is a compelling reason to ditch eBay.

I can't imagine any sales class/course where you are encouraged to drive away your existing customers base on bad policy.

Great way to say "thanks for being a loyal customer".

Nope, the exclusion list does not apply to the auto-pay option. Ebay said they were going to look into programming that, but that was over a year ago and all we've heard is crickets as usual

How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

@sas_rr

This is an older thread that may be closed.  When you are asked to provide a payment source in order to bid or make an offer, and you comply, you will be auto-billed.  Your payment options are limited, and combining multiple items for one shipping price is not going to happen.

You need to find sellers that don't require this.   Sellers can turn it off, but once eBay puts your BUYER ID into forced compliance you are stuck with it.   Just watch for the 'screen' telling you to choose how you want to pay before they let you proceed.  Then go find another seller if you don't want to be auto-billed.

Sellers that do not wish to provide combined shipping or care about multiple sales to the same buyer think this is wonderful.  Sellers that do wish to provide a good buyer experience AND DO NOT KNOW they have these settings are wondering why they don't get offers anymore or bids have dwindled.

How do I disable automatic payment method as a buyer?

I would like a clear answer on this, preferable on how to disable.  I recently bid on an auction, and nobody else bid and I won.  Much to my horror, I received an autopay notice from eBay.  The problem?

Auctions are in different countries and I use more than one CC to pay.  If in the USA, a US$ card, if in the UK, a UK pounds one.  This removes all of the currency exchange issues.  Thus, when I get the notice I won, I want to be able to choose which payment method.  Autopay removes that choice.

So, delete all payment methods and await a bill and enter the CC number every time?

@adfk,

Replying to older topics when you do not have the exact same issue as the person who wrote it, is kind of bad manners.  Some of what you need to know was written in earlier replies. Buyers cannot change the payment rules a seller has set up or had set up by ebay without them knowing.

If you delete a payment method you will not be able to make offers or bid on auction listings where the seller has auto pay enabled.

In your case if you use PayPal you can switch between cards you have stored on that site to make payments. If you never signed up to use it, I do not think you can do that once you have registered a card for payments.
