Frustrating Feedback Experience

I bought an item from a seller which was misdescribed  by the seller.  I complained via Paypal and got a refund. After consideration, I left negative feedback for the seller and he responded by leaving a negative comment on my feedback which was insulting and libelious. In addition, he sent an email to my private address (which he got from the Paypal details) which was threathening in tone, littered with expletives and even more insulting than the feedback comment.

I complained to Ebay and they acted quickly and had the feedback comment (and my feedback) removed.  And this is what I find frustrating. Ebay can only remove the feedback in its entirety and cannot remove only his comment. So his misbehaviour is rewarded with the removal of the negative feedback and the price he pays is a warning from Ebay not to do it again. I asked Ebay to at least provide the facility for me to leave feedback again and they said this cannot be done. Any comments?

Instead of worrying about leaving feedback again, you should worry about buying and selling on the same account. You’re an easy target for retaliation.

Feedback is never resinstated and there is no way, at present time, to leave feedback multiple times on the same transaction and ebay isn't going to change that.

Unfortunately, that's how it works. Some sellers are nasty. Some buyers are nasty. The majority, though, are the ones we never hear about here on the boards, as they give us absolutely nothing to complain about or seek answers for (yeah, I know; ending a sentence in a preposition=huge no-no).

Once feedback is removed, it's removed and there are no do-overs. Of course, as the agrieved party, you'd like a chance to make your experience known. Ask yourself honestly, how much of that is wanting to warn other buyers, and how much is just wanting vindication?

You've been on eBay a long time. Surely this isn't your first experience with a less than ideal trading partner. My advice is to try to be grateful for the removal of the inappropriate feedback, and move on.

You may be a blip on this guy's radar for a week or so, but he'll quickly move on to alienate someone else and forget all about you. Don't allow HIM to take up real estate in YOUR head. (Do keep a copy of that email, though!)

I understand your concern that sellers like him apparently get only a slap on the wrist and continue to sell. We are not going to be able to change that, so don't dwell on it.

@priced.2.sell,

Why did you file a dispute through PayPal?  Had you invoked your protections under ebay's money back guarantee (MBG) the seller would likely have gotten a defect on their account.

If the seller had a No Returns policy, keep in mind it does not fly in the face of the MBG, when a not as described dispute is filed.  Sellers do not get defects when you file through PayPal.  Defects do more to a seller than feedback does these days.

The seller may have used that nasty reply, to get you to do exactly what you did, get the feedback removed.  You could have replied to the comment and let it stand for others to see. Those who check feedback, can tell a lot more about a seller who is rude in a feedback reply.

Since you are currently buying and selling on the same ID, make sure to add the seller to your Blocked Buyer List (BBL).  You would be wise to start a new ID just for buying. It can be added to your PayPal account easily, and not compromise the security of either ID.

You will need to use a different email address for the new account.  Read the info in the link below.

Feedback is never resinstated.

Not true.  I left a neg for a seller a while back that she managed to get removed.  I called and they reinstated it.

Not an easy process but it is possible.

I saw that...

So what was the process?

A progressive warning system is pretty normal for some websites.

Ebay wants this issue closed so they don't have to deal with it again. If you don't want to put up with all the problems from Ebay, don't use Ebay.

This is why I use Foxreplace with Firefox to mark bad sellers in big bold red letters. I also mark fast shipping sellers with green. Search results now include the seller name (which it didn't used to) so I can see right away which sellers to avoid.
