Fraud with the help of eBay

Very sophisticated fraud. Listed a Item for $650 that typically goes for $4,000. (RED FLAG #1) I should not have purchased but eBay claims to have fraud protection. Item is claimed to be in Germany. After committing to buy, and paying, a tracking number is entered in the system. The tracking number shows that this part, allegedly in Germany, is shipping from Louiville KY (RED FLAG #2). The UPS Proof of delivery shows the package delivered to my town. (very well done fraud). Multiple RED FLAGS show up on the UPS Proof of delivery. RED FLAG #3 is the package weight is 4lb and an Antminer S17 weighs 9500g or 21 lb. RED FLAG #4 it is marked delivered inside and signed for by COSS. This sounds like a business. I am single and live alone, so delivery inside and someone else signing for it is impossible. Because of the questionable information on the delivery confirmation, I contacted UPS customer service and asked if that package was addresses to my address. They said that, for confidentiality, they could not tell me where it went, but they could confirm that it was not sent to my address. I filed a complaint with eBay and they said that I received it. eBay's complacency in the fraud is that when I filed a complaint with PayPal. eBay told them that it shipped to my address even tho UPS confirmed that it didn't.

The broader fraud as I see it:

1) List an item for sale located in another trusted country like Germany or France. This is needed to allow time to find a tracking number with the same city.

2) You must have access to a large number of tracking numbers. Like a Walmart, UPS, or other large corporation employees. You could also have hacking type access.

3) Just wait for something to ship to that town, copy and paste the tracking number.

eBay's complacency in the Fraud:

1) Complaint is filed and they claim to do an Investigation.

2) Look in the computer system and see that it went to that town.

3) Either out of laziness or incompetence assume that it went to the correct address.

4) An appeal comes in from PayPal and eBay lies and sais that it went to my address, even tho UPS disagrees.

I filed complaints with the State's Attorney General, The FTC, and the Internet Crime Complaint Center. What else should I do to get my money back? If I could get them to do their job and actually investigate from now on that would be a bonus.

@machine-joe

Read this, please.  This scam is so commonly posted here I just made a copy/paste message.  It will tell you how to get refunded from eBay:

It appears you are a victim of the "fake tracking scam". When you file for item not received, and there is a record of "delivery", the automated system and the regular customer service will not validate the tracking and you lose. If you appeal with the same information, you will lose. If you file anywhere else for "item not received" you are likely to get the same result. Nobody is going to check to see that the tracking is for a parcel that was actually shipped before you even paid, or was for a 50 lb. box when your item was only 4 ounces. But all hope is NOT lost.

There is usually really good eBay money back guarantee protections in place

UNLESS you are a victim of the "fake tracking scam".

There is something you can do, but it is NOT going to involve calling or chatting with the lower tier eBay customer service anymore.

Just for starters, since you have the tracking number go here, and select the carrier and input the number>

This site just might show you exactly where the parcel was delivered, where it originated, when the parcel was entered into the system. its size and weight.

https://www.ship24.com/

Go check on it, and make a screen shot. The details should show the street address (not yours).

You can get help for your issue. Typically it requires that you have some documentation from the carrier that the tracking number is NOT related to a parcel shipped to your address.  IF it is any carrier other than USPS, it will show on the link provided above.   If your seller is already Naru'd (no longer a registered user) that is a good thing, too. It means eBay already knows about the scamming adventures, and does not want to lose anymore of eBay's money as a result.

Basically, you are going to have to contact eBay via the big blue SEND MESSAGE button on this page:

https://www.facebook.com/eBayForBusiness

The eBay staff that monitors the messages here are well aware of the fake tracking scam. Better yet, they actually have the authority to do something about it. You will need to message with your name, contact information, user ID, item/transaction number, any documentation you may have about the parcel/tracking. You need to mention that your 'seller' is no longer a registered user as well if that is the case.

Good luck, and let us know how it turns out for you.

Sorry, once you filed a claim with Pay Pal, there's nothing Ebay can do to help you now.

Have a great day.

Re: Fraud with the help of eBay

I'm not sure, but I know I have to fight for justace. I know that eBay told Paypal that it shipped to "my full address". This scam seems not to be a new one. In that case they knew or should have known that this is a lie. That, I believe makes eBay complicent in wire fraud. If the FTC and IC3 complaints don't get results then I will contact an attorney. My goal is to force them to make the comunity more safe like it was 20 years ago when I first started using them. If this doesn't work, I get the same crappy level of fraud protection from aliexpress, with lower prices.

Re: Fraud with the help of eBay

Thank you ittybitnot. I think posting on their Facebook made a big different. Within an hour I got a reply with a very short form to fill out. Two days later. Before I scanned it and returned it, I already got a message that they reopened the case. Within two hours they closed the case by saying that my package was stolen and I would get a refund. I haven’t seen the refund yet but I believe that it’s in process. I believe this is the new way business works. As one business owner said to me, “I will do anything you force me to”. In the past business was about caring and doing what’s right. As of now the scams will continue because eBay is not admitting it is a scam. I recommend filing complaints with ftc.gov ic3.gov and a Facebook post about your experience. Maybe we can stop eBay from feeding the scammers so they go away.

You got: A courtesy refund.

Your scammer got: Away

You should have contacted PayPal (about the open case) or your card issuer (file a chargeback) about the discrepancies with the weight and delivery. Unlike eBay, both PayPal and your card issuer are willing to call UPS to confirm those details. And then your refund comes directly from the scammer, instead of a courtesy refund.

Once you went to Pay Pal, Ebay is no longer involved, and there is nothing they can or will do.

You have to work with Pay Pal now.

Have a great day.

Re: Fraud with the help of eBay

Thank you for your reply and help. I Can’t send a message to eBay because eBay won’t let me message them because the it showed the item was delivered . And also the seller was no longer registered.

You know you're responding to a message that's at least 5 months old, right?

If you have a current problem, you need to start your own thread and give all details.

Re: Fraud with the help of eBay

I am the victim of these ebay tracking scams too.  Ebay does not help or take the time to look at

my emails with the attached UPS email with the address showing where my package actually went to other than my address in my order product details.   I also looked up the senders address and called them and they are somebody else....  These scammers are stealing addresses.  This seller has bad feedback and not many sales, and here I have thousands of sales and purchases with excellent 100% feedback.  I'm going to be leaving ebay.  I don't like being treated like this.  My order number is 18-09212-30299.  I'm loosing $93.60 to a scammer on ebay.  Ebay should be protecting their buyers and looking more closely at these scams.
