Forced immediate payment

That's quite an essay.  I confess that I almost never buy more than any one thing at a time from any seller, never had one complain that I've paid too quickly though.

I would figure the shopping cart feature should work to your buyer's advantage, no?

When I've tried to use cart for multiple items, it doesn't work.  Even if seller combines as stated, IPR gets in the way.  Last time I wanted two items from one seller and used the cart, it wouldn't work.  Seller made me an offer on each message I sent on each item, I accepted, then she sent invoice as a work around.

Another time I used cart for two dolls, it turned that to four as it duplicated each one.  Have read of this happening to others.  Nothing would change it and seller had to cancel and I bought each separately, she sent invoice, I paid.

I don't use the cart; it doesn't like me!Smiley Very Happy

Quite some time ago, eBay quietly made Immediate payment required in multiple categories. It's not always the seller's settings.

Yes, this. If eBay is automating the IPR then you can still add items to the shopping cart and click the button to request total from seller so they can send a combined invoice before you pay.

If the seller is the one who set IPR then there's no way around that as far as I know.

One work around is to sign into eBay.ca and make the purchase there as the commit to buy option is still available. However, if you make the purchase there, I don't think that you will get credited for eBay bucks.

But is it good for a buyer to wait 7 days to receive an item. Sellers want immediate payment and Buyers want immediate shipment. Not that is it good for anyone, but there needs to be a better way for everyone.

With all due respect, not all sellers may want immediate payment, but you may not know that Ebay has made a change this year, and will add immediate payment to fixed price listing under $1,000.00.  This was decided to cut down on the number of unpaid item disputes that were being opened.  While many sellers do want immediate payment, some don't, but it is added to their listing.

Not all buyers want immediate shipment.  Although it may be hard to see on a listing now, as the seller's handling time does not show in many cases, many sellers do not and cannot accomodate immediate shipping.  Many buyers expect there to be time allowed for the seller to pack the item and take it or have it picked up by the carrier.  A rush in the process could cause improper packing and a broken item.  So many buyers know that the process may take a little time and have no problem with that; they just want their widget as described, in a timely fashion.  Expecting immediate shipment may be very unrealistic, for very many reason.  Of course there will always be immediate needs that may be best suited for local buying due to the time factor needed to online ordering.  So if seven days, or whatever the estimated delivery time frame is, is unacceptable, you make your decision according to what will work for you~if you have  a pressing, immediate need.

Otherwise just figure on having travel time for your item, and enjoy your Ebay shopping.

I'm not disputing the fact that it takes time to package and ship an item. I have bought items before and the seller took about a week before he shipped the item out. No where on the listing was this mentioned that it would take this long to shipped the item out. Now with that said, If the buyer or EBAY wants immediate payment, then buyer's should have items shipped within a day or two. The packaging should already be figured out before hand. Travel is Travel time I get that, but to wait a week before you ship when you want immediate payment is wrong.

When the amount of effort it takes to ship out a 46 piece set of china is the same as taking the 2 seconds and clicking 2 times.........

Ebay decided last year, possibly in the summer, to remove the seller's handling time from listings, stating that the buyer only needed to see the estimated delivery timeframe.  If you see that the estimated delivery timeframe is not to your liking, then you decide not to buy.

Comparing Immediate payment to immediate shipping, is, with all due respect, comparing apples and oranges.  Ebay adds immediate payment required to fixed price listing that are less than a thousand dollars, so one cannot assume that the seller put IPR on the listing.  They may not be able to remove it, or even realize it is there.

Paying immediately should not pose a problem for a buyer, but packing the item, setting up pick up, and having the item picked up take time.  Many do not pack ahead of time, that can cause issues if a buyer has a question on the item.

Hence, apples to oranges.

If you feel that Ebay should show the seller's handling time, call Ebay CS or fill out the tell us what you think survey link that is on almost every page.  Let Ebay know how you feel!
