First issue vinyl

I was going to bid on an auction that was worth several hundred dollars.  Of interest to me was the listing stated that these were first issue vinyl records.  When I inquired about this the seller had no idea as to whether the albums in the listing were truly first issues.  First issue records often will increase the value of the record.   So, is the seller listing the vinyl as first issue a bit deceptive.  Should the buyer be able to return the merchandise because what they bought was not what was advertised in the listing?

Are you familiar with eBay's Money Back Guarantee for buyers?

If what the buyer receives is NOT AS DESCRIBED (as not first issue vinyl), then all the buyer has to do is open an item not as described case within 30 days of having received the item.  After he opens the case in the Resolution Center, he waits 96 hours, then returns to the case and requests that eBay step in.

If he is required to return the NAD item, the seller is required to either reimburse him in advance for shipping or send him a prepaid return label.

When the returned item is received back by the seller, he is required to refund in full.

Yes, if the item is not as described in the listing, seller pays for the return and you get a full refund.  However, if seller when contacted can't answer your question I would look elsewhere and save the hassle.

So just how do you tell if it is a "first issue"?  If something that the seller can look for or post a photo of, ask them to do that.

I would like to thank all the sellers that took time to reply.  You have been most helpful.

First issue vinyl

I have found the use of Discogs to be helpful when trying to identify first pressings.  It requires a bit of research time.   The first issues are not always identified in Discog's notes.  That's the reason few of my vinyl record listings will have "first pressing" in them.   There might be less first issue listings if eBay dropped the first issue identifier from the listing drop down box.
