Fake delivery and beware your old eBay account.

On Jan 23, I woke up around 3:30 am from notifications of four new purchases ranging from $87-89.99. So I check my purchases on my current account and see what those purchases are from, and nothing. This gave me a weird feeling so I froze my credit card before going back to bed.

Woke up around 8:00 am, checked again still nothing. That moment hits me I have an old eBay account that I don't use. I went on my old account and there it is four new purchases. Those four items are something you can buy for around $5.99 and barely gets any sales. The items the hackers use my account to purchases sold those items. Those listed are copy and paste of other people's listing and increase the price 15 times. From looking at the sold history everything at $87.99+ within two days period. (I'm convinced the hacker/s are also the sellers) Who would buy an item at $87.99+ when the same item can be bought from a seller with 10k+ positive reviews and at $5.99. The $5.99 listing sold like 6 in 8 days and $87.99+ sold 10 in 2 days. ( all those listing are like this) Assume I'm not the only victim.

I called eBay support and they told me to ask the seller to cancel the order. I also called my credit card company and they are investigating right now. The hacker couldn't get any money.

On Jan 26, I got a notification the seller has added tracking. I tried to talk to eBay support again, told me to wait and see if the item arrive or not. I didn't want to pay for the return.

On Jan 27, today 11:59 am and 12:16 pm I got a text notification it has been delivered to the mailbox and porch, I went outside and check and there is nothing both times. There is only one mailman doing my route every day. I was supposed to have mail and something that I purchased myself arriving today(what I purchased has tracking).

At 1:22 pm the mailman has delivered my mail and package.

This had me very confused about how the hacker/scammer do it with the tracking. Faking a delivery, from looking at the tracking history the only weird part is the DHL ECOMMERCE.

So check your old eBay account if you have a payment method attached to it, this is a headache.

Re: Fake delivery and beware your old eBay account.

Unfortunately, unscrupulous people do buy & sell old inactive accounts.  I was almost a victim on the seller side, when I noticed that the account that bought my item was quite suspicious.   Good that you noticed & are taking the proper precautions.   There are many ways to fake delivery scans.
