@fbusoni

The information in that post is quite OLD now.  The "ship24" website, though it was a godsend to victims for a while, it no longer provides the information a victim needs to appeal a claim for "item not received" when there is a 'delivery scan' associated with the eBay order.  The problem still remains that eBay only looks for that 'delivery scan', either by BOT or the outsourced foreign call center  reps that are available by call back or chat.

Let me know if you would like the latest posts of the "wall of shame" collected here over the past year that outlines other courses of action by the buyer victim when the eBay Money Back Guarantee becomes a giant fail.

When one is a victim of this, the need to remember NOT to file an "item not received" complaint.  That is the usual reaction, and why the scam is the most successful on going one on this venue after more than 13 years.

Short version of alternate plans for the victim are still not published on any eBay page.  A person that paid with PayPal can now choose "SHIPPED TO WRONG ADDRESS"  or file with their credit card FRAUD/Fake tracking scam.    If they insist on INR, they will lose.  The crook will win again, and eBay has another case for which they successfully  deny responsibility.

Happy holidays!

Report it to the FBI.  If they get enough complaints they may investigate the person who scammed you.

@warehouse1009,

The scam unfortunately is a hard one to beat partially because of shipping agency's privacy policies that basically say only the sender can access the full shipping label information, Address and Package type/size/weight.

   Except for the USPS sometimes, getting the info you need to win an appeal through ebay after an Item Not Received (INR)  dispute has been filed and declined is difficult unless you sign up for their free enhanced tracking services;

USPS - Informed Delivery,  FedEx - Delivery Manager, UPS  My Choice.

 The notifications you receive from those services have information in them that can be attached to an Appeal or to one of ebay's Social Media sites to get a refund.

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

https://x.com/askebay

If you go the social media route you need the seller's username and the ebay item number, but you also need to get info from the shipper to prove the item was not delivered to your address, that you can add as attachments.

AS for getting ebay to do something about the issue, some of us have been in touch with ebay employees about the problem, but the level of management the ones we can communicate with is very low on the totem pole, and they do not seem to be able to move the issue up through channels.

  Until something does get done you can try filing claims through PayPal but Do Not file Item Not Received they have an option for Shipped to wrong address.

Until ebay does do something more to combat the issue, Always check each seller's feedback profile before buying from one, it takes a bout 3 clicks now to get tho their profiles, and once you are close look above the feedback comments for the Switch to classic view button to see the traditional box w/ feedback numbers in it.  People wo were scammed and did not file disputes leave negatives saying items were delivered someplace else.

Also avoid buying from china based sellers, as they are the ones most likely to use the fake tracking scam.

FYI this also happens on other 3rd party retail sites, and with ads found on social media sites.

Re: FAKE TRACKING SCAM ON EBAY. just Google it... It's big, Ebay has to do something about this...

Hello,
I'm afraid I'm in the process of becoming a victim of this scam myself, and I'm unsure of what to do
I bought a laptop at about 100$ lower price than it goes for usually on sale brand new, but not so low that it seemed like an obvious scam, and the page for it didn't have anything that stuck out to me immediately as a first time buyer (I know to look out for lots of negative reviews, no reviews, etc. The seller seemed a tad suspicious as he only had 7 ratings, all positive and all for keychains, blankets, etc (one review did have a picture of the keychain in their possession), but he was also a registered business seller.

I was provided with a tracking tag on the 23rd for yanwen, and cut to later that day when I find his account is no longer registered on ebay. When I look at the tag, it just says that the order has been processed by the seller, and it's been like that for two days now without any notification it's even been picked up by yanwen. My expected delivery window closes on the 13th, and I'm a tad worried that this tracking tag is going to magically appear in my zip code shortly before then, although not at my door as is customary for this scam. Is there anything I can do about this if this does become a fake tracking scam and not one of the simpler ones that would be easier to get a refund for?

I know not to file an INR if they do this, but I can't get any additional information from the seller because their account is no longer registered, so I feel I'm already out of luck.
I used my debit card directly, not through paypal, and I do not know what domestic mail service yet this likely scammer will try to send it through if this does indeed turn out to be a fake tracking scam. ATP I am hoping they are simply dumb and will leave the "tracking number" sitting for a month waiting to be picked up by Yanwen.

Was just going to say this. There isn't really anything eBay can do because they have no way of knowing whether the package was delivered to the correct address or not as those specifics aren't public.

would the only thing to do in this instance be to initiate a credit card chargeback then?
if one can for some reason not get the package specs from usps/fedex (I am rather concerned about this due to my own situation), and I can no longer contact the seller because their account conveniently disappeared a day after I bought from them. Can the seller even defend a chargeback to their account if they've been banned?

@wy-91034

If your seller has been removed from the site, contact eBay through one of their social media portals.

https://www.facebook.com/eBay/ (use the blue message button)

OR one of these:

https://www.instagram.com/ebayforsellers/

https://x.com/askebay

Explain that you feel you are a victim of the FAKE TRACKING SCAM.

If you need to go to your credit card for redress instead, be sure NOT to file 'item not received', but rather FRAUD/fake tracking scam.

It's been several years now.

All ebay is going to do about it is increase the time you can leave a negative feedback or charge more fees.

If the seller I bought from was banned off ebay does that increase my chances of them siding with me?
My order also requires a signature at the door so ig that helps too
