Ebay protects scammers

Ebay protects scammers and ignores buyers. A lot of people selling on here are scammers that don't have the items they claim to be selling and ebay protects them for negative reviews. Ebay is a scam and the legitimate sellers and buyers should not do business with them because you are just supporting scammers

Yes, there are a lot of scammers here, both buyers and sellers, but there's also a lot of good buyers and sellers.

Have a great day.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

If you are having difficulty distinguishing between good sellers and scammers, here are some tips.

In general, you can avoid a lot of headaches by choosing to purchase only from established sellers that have recent and past positive feedback as a seller for selling items in the same category that you intend to buy. If someone is selling a dozen apple watches, but has no feedback, or only has feedback as a buyer, or only has feedback for selling dress patterns or fishing lures (actual examples I have seen), perhaps wait until they have a track record of positive feedback for selling electronics before you buy from them.

You might miss out on a good deal from a new seller once in a while, and nothing can guarantee that you won't still run into a scammer anyway, but you can avoid a lot of potential problems by choosing to do business with established sellers. Anyone can put together a listing that looks nice -- it is not hard at all to simply copy an existing listing -- but it is much harder to create a history of consistent sales and positive feedback.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

@bladayn_0,

  "A lot of people selling on here are scammers that don't have the items they claim to be selling and ebay protects them for negative reviews".

If you read and follow the time frames given in eBay's Money Back Guarantee (MBG) policy, you will not have problems with getting a refund and leaving appropriate feedback.  There is a link to the MBG policies on almost every listing in a box in the upper right corner.  You can also avoid the bad sellers by doing two things;

A) Check each seller's feedback profile page by clicking on their feedback number in ( ) to the right of their username.  On the page that opens you can click on the numbers of neutrals and negative feedback they have received to read only those comments.

FYI. High volume sellers with less than a 98.9% feedback rating should be avoided.  A low volume seller can have a lower percentage for just one negative.

B) Do not buy from sellers who give a 60+ day estimated delivery time frame.  There is no reason, even with Covid delays that a seller cannot deliver a product they are selling, if they have it in stock in less than 60 days, even from China.

 "Ebay protects scammers and ignores buyers... Ebay is a scam and the legitimate sellers and buyers should not do business with them because you are just supporting scammers".

You do not have enough experience on ebay to make such a blanket statement.  The truth is buyers have lots of protection, IF they read and follow the terms of the MBG policies.  If you ever start selling on this site you will eventually find out that sellers have very few protections at all.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

eBay offers protection for buyers per the Money Back Guarantee seen in every listing.

You have now posted 2x about this same topic, giving no information on either post.

Is is fair to blame eBay for your issue if you've not used the tools available to protect you if/when a transaction goes wrong?

Re: Ebay protects scammers

It would be helpful if you could provide details of the transaction that you had problems with as you are still a new buyer on eBay since this July 2020.  Frankly, it's unfortunate that things have gotten off to a rocky start, but the majority of sellers on eBay are well established providing excellent products and service.  I've been here 20 years buying and selling and the changes that have occurred here have been helpful to buyers.

It takes time to learn how to resolve problems and is important that you familiarize yourself with the policies on eBay.   Reading  the item description in it's entirety in essential to make sure that you are purchasing the product you want in the condition you desire. More important, you need to read the seller's feedback comments to determine whether they consistently provide good service both past and recent.   Clicking on the seller's profile helps you identify their registered location as there are  many international sellers that try to hide their location.   One clue is the delivery time frame.   Make sure that all transactions are paid through eBay  to insure your protection.   Prices too good to be true are a red flag especially when you see that the seller does not have a history of positive feedback for selling those products.  eBay's money back guarantee policies are heavily slanted towards buyer satisfaction.

If you have problems with a transaction there is the resolution center that assists you in filing the appropriate claim and you need to adhere to the stated time frames.  If you encounter one of these scammers you do have multiple avenues of getting your money back and the community forums are helpful in steering you in the right direction.  As I began it's difficult for anyone to help or comment effectively on your difficulties since you didn't provide any details.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

I  think that's **bleep** they are  allow to do this,  right now I won an auction, and  seller won't accept cc or debit,  what the hell?     I think she didn't get what she wanted from auction ( most of items she is selling starting bid at 30 dollars,  and the one I bid on was 3.61,  and I won and now  I unable to pay for it.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

so use your card to pay through Paypal then you ave an extra layer of protection. Did the seller state in the listing that they took credit or debit cards or did you just assume it

Re: Ebay protects scammers

@bladayn_0

Feedback has nothing to do with solving problems.

What you want is a REFUND and what you need is the RESOLUTION CENTRE.

The Resolution Centre is at the bottom of this page (and most others).

You can open a Not Received Dispute after the last estimated date for delivery that eBay gave you or a Not As Described Dispute after the item is delivered.

You have 30 days for this.

The process is entirely automatic and you will be refunded.

In addition, you have Paypal's Buyer Protection for 180 days from purchase and if you use a credit card to back your PP account, you can access the chargeback policy of the card .

Feedback is a voluntary opinion on how a transaction went, and is not used by eBay to assess member accounts.

In my opinion, it is a relic of the 20th century internet and should be retired.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

@tereshand_86

Why are you even talking to the seller about payment.?

All sellers are required to accept Paypal and you do not need a PP account for this.

You click on the Pay Now button and follow the instructions.

Paypal is a payment processor used by sellers, like myself, who do not have merchant credit card accounts and cannot accept direct cc payments. This is the majority of eBay sellers.

While some sellers are now enrolled in eBay's Managed Payments, all this means for the buyer is that she can also use GooglePay and ApplePay as well as her credit cards and Paypal.

The seller may have Blocked non-US credit cards, because he has to pay 4.4% fees on them instead of the usual 2.95 fee on US-based cards.

Re: Ebay protects scammers

What payment  methods does this seller have listed on the listing page? If you tell us what's there perhaps we can help you.
