Ebay protection gone wrong.

Guss it's time to move on and forget about buying on Ebay. 30 days simply is not enough time for Ebay protection espeacialy when buying auto parts. Not dealling with this **bleep** any more

I thought I was alone. I think the annaminity is the problem. I don't think buyers should be allowed to make unreasonable claims either, like using a cheap product breaking it and expecting a new one. I've learned you get what you pay for. But you should get at least what you order.

Yes I do understand. But they have the responsibility to to provide warrentee contact info. And they should indicate the difference. When you buy lifetime warrentee from a parts house they take care of the exchanges.  If you can't be responsible you should not be selling. You are making excuses for drop shippers who after they sell the product they could care less if it falls apart.

Re: Ebay protection gone wrong.

All I asked was ----you need more than 30 days to see if it worked?

First, I know that eBay's protection is for 30 days and I wouldn't expect to be covered after eBay protection has expired, so yes, if my item or DVD player quit working after 30 days I'd be disappointed.  I wouldn't get mad at eBay though.

But if it happened I'd open a case on PayPal where buyer protection is for 180 days, or I would call Square Trade if I purchased a warranty.  I know the seller's warranty in the listing isn't enforceable. Manufacturers don't warranty eBay items unless the seller is a direct distributor of theirs. Or I might file a chargeback with my credit card.

Some old timers might remember this, I talked about it many years ago.  In 1983 I bought a $3,000 rare parrot and the pet shop offered a 30 day warranty. The bird was so tame and sweet.  I was concerned though because the bird droppings were yellow and white with  mucous  and my other different species parrot had green and white no mucous droppings. I called the pet store with my concern and they said not to worry, she's fine. Vet checked, they said.

On day 31 the bird died.  I paid cash and was SOL.

I had a necropsy done and the results were the bird died of long standing liver disease due to antibiotic overdosing. And the main symptom was yellow mucousy droppings.  Turns out the bird was not tame, just too sick to do anything like screech or climb around the cage. I thought the bird was sweet and docile because of that was her  personality.

Moving along here, I lost the court case even though the necropsy report showed they sold me a sick bird. The judge said I had 30 days to take her to a vet to get checked. I told them the pet store assured me all their birds they sold were healthy and vet checked and not to worry about the droppings being yellow.  It didn't matter because the judge said my bird was out of warranty when she died. Case closed. I was duped. The pet store knew the bird was sick but their defense was since I thought the bird's droppings were yellow and mucous and it concerned me I should have taken her to the vet instead of calling the pet store.

Losing $3k in 1983 is like losing $9k today. Hindsight I should've taken the bird to a vet instead of relying on the pet store telling me that. Heck, I thought if you're in the bird business then you must have knowledge about birds. Dummy me.  What's bad is I bought this bird to replace a bird I paid $2,700  for that was stolen in a break-in.  And I didn't  learn because I got another smaller parrot a few years later.  He's still alive and thriving and has a huge vocabulary. He's 38 years old and will probably outlive me! I'm still looking for a Hyacinth Macaw!

BOTTOM LINE- Don't trust the seller saying it works.  Get it checked out before 30 days.  Purchase a warranty if you can't check it out because seller warranties might be no good.

Re: Ebay protection gone wrong.

I need to do a follow up. Ebay Motors  & Auto Parts has compition... Yipee!!! So for all the negative Post out here who really don't know anything about working on cars and the hassells espeacially THE SO CALLED LIFETIME WARRENTEES. Yes it does on occasiaons take longer than 30 days to install parts...  Just for an example you could be doing a rebuild and have to order from multipal sellers which could take alot longer to get everything back in the car. Or for whatever reason Lets just say you get covid or it snows 2 feet or you're old and just don't want to rush or what ever you just might need more than a 30 day protection plan.

Great news we don't have to put up with Ebay (Sellers)  ripping off Buyers any more. Just go to CarParts. for Price Match Guarantee, 90- Returns, and everything has a Lifetime Replacement. and the price is as good if not better than Ebay and they take Pay Pal. Good riddens Ebay

Re: Ebay protection gone wrong.

Yep it's **bleep**. I paid cash for a $17,000 truck last summer. the seller told me he would garrentee for 50,000 miles. The transfer case blew up about 250 miles later, just one of those things that you just can't see. it cost me another $4500 (Parts Labor Towing). I can count on one hand the disputes I have had on Ebay and Pay Pal has never once helped. EVERYONE IS RIGHT I DON"T HAVE TO SHOP ON EBAY AND I WON'T. IDON'T NEED THE FRUSTRATION. Sorry about your Parrot.
