Ebay oversea customer service

I hope ebay staff read this.

Your oversea customer service reps are ridiculous. The rep I talk to, I was reporting a seller asking me for money to cancel an order. The rep seriously repeated back to me that the seller offer me money to cancel an order. I said no, I corrected her 3 times. She keeps on repeating back that I was offer money instead of being extorted money.

Ebay gotta bring back customer service to the states, and hire better people.

I could not understand your issue, even after reading it 3 times.

@tangnk,

As the previous response says, how can you expect an overseas rep to understand you, when we can't make sense of what has / is happening?

"I was reporting a seller asking me for money to cancel an order".

Were you the one asking to cancel an order, or was the seller trying to cancel the order?

Did you get a message from the seller saying the item was out of stock, or damaged and they could not complete the order?

Had you paid for the item already or not.

If you paid for the item, and the seller is out of stock, they should just refund you.

You can leave feedback saying something like "Seller out of stock, is trying to buy me off rather than just giving a refund".

If the seller is the one trying to cancel, you will have to wait until the last estimated delivery date has passed, then open an item not received (INR) dispute. The seller will get a defect for not being able to complete the transaction, and you can leave feedback. If the item arrived damaged, Open a dispute for the item being not as described. The seller will have to provide you a return shipping label or the money to buy postage to return the item with tracking.

The seller offering you money not to open a dispute, or to close one.

If you haven't filed one yet, do not agree just wait then file an INR the day after the last estimated delivery date.

If you have opened a dispute and the seller messaged you offering money to close it, go to the resolution center console and ask ebay to step in. Especially, if the seller has only messaged you through regular ebay messages. The only messages that count are the ones you can read in the resolution center console. Once you close a dispute the seller will likely not refund you, and you cannot open another dispute through ebay.

In the link below about feedback extortion, open the whole policy and use the report button at the bottom of that section.

What’s not to understand. I thought it was clear. I asked to cancel an order, seller requested I send $20 via paypal in order for him to cancel it.

I explained to the customer rep, I asked the seller to cancel an order, item was paid for. Seller said I need to send him $20 to cancel the order. Item has not been shipped. I thought that was a clear explanation.

Awe, but you didn't say that in your opening statement here, which caused some confusion.  You know the story but the rest of us do not.  Sometimes that gets a bit lost when sharing the story so things get dropped out that are actually important tidbits.

Yes, you are right that is extortion.  The seller has no way of enforcing such a request.  So I'd just ignore it.  While it is up to a seller if they want to cancel an order or not, it usually is recommended to just cancel and not try to force a buyer into a transaction they don't want.

If you haven't paid for the item, just let it ride.  Don't pay.  Eventually the seller will file a non payment claim against you.  As disturbing as this may be, just let it ride.  They will close it 4+ days later and then your account will get a non payment strike on it.  One of this is NOT going to hurt your account in any way.

But after that happens, you can call Ebay [if you dare] and ask for the strike to be removed and tell them why you didn't pay.  If your account is in good standing and you don't have other non payment strikes, they will remove it.

And if you don't want to use the call center again, you can use social media.

I forgot to mention.  If you have paid for the item.  The one day past the estimated delivery date on your purchase record for the item, file an Item Not Received claim and that will protect you and your money.

If they actually ship the item, once you receive it, file a claim to return the item.

After whatever works for your situation.  Then make sure you report your seller for attempted extortion.

It was clear as mud.

...anyway if your seller has shipped the item the cost to recall the package (and a recall is not 100% successful) runs about $20

You shouldn't be speaking with an overseas CSR for anything that can't be answered in more than two spaces on a flowchart.

I honestly don't understand the other posters confusion.... unless of course it is I that is confused.

What I got out of it:

You asked to cancel and order and the seller said they would if you paid them money.  You contacted the lovely overseas CSR and they kept understanding that the seller was offering you money to cancel the order.

Bottom line, you feel that eBay should bring CS back to the US and hire people with a firm grasp of the language.  I'm thinking some of the posters on this board may not fit into that category.... Maybe it's me.

I understood - but will say that after working in a legal environment for 10+years - repeating back is something that is done all the time - especially w/numbers.  I still do it at home when calling on any issue/question that I may have.

As stated, if the item was in transit, it would cost to have it recalled.  I am not sure of the cost, but there is a charge for that from USPS.  If it was not shipped and you request the cancellation within eBay specified time, then no, the seller should not request money from you or any buyer for that matter.  If I am not mistaken, it has to be within one (1) hour after the sale.

Perhaps that explanation would have worked far better.
