not thinking about it i bought a video game from china a couple days ago. today i received a message from the seller, " OK.thank you very much.and china have virus.need wait About 10 Day shipping.thank you very much understand My friend!"
i did not think anything about buying this item from a china seller until i read this message about how they could not ship out my order because china was infected. i contacted the seller to cancel my order and received no response.
i contacted customer service and asked them to step in and cancel the order, they told me they could do nothing.
ebay needed to stop china from selling until the virus was under control for the safety of its buyers and country.
now i've got an item coming from an infected country that i can do nothing about.
does anyone else see this as a problem?

I avoid China sellers for other reasons, but I think packages shipped from there are okay.

I went to the CDC website.
Among preventative actions recommended was cleaning commonly touched items with household disinfectant.
I don't know what you bought, but I would probably spray it real good and let it sit in a plastic bag for a while.
During the last big scare I bought one of those bright yellow breaking bad moon suits.
Guess I'll have to get it out.
I'd say order one, but I think they come from China.

That's for stuff in your own house: "Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe." It's not necessary if the item was touched a week ago. As noted above, the virus can't live that long.

It's been a while now, but when we cleaned for norovirus, we put on the moon suit and wiped down absolutely everything. That was in a healthcare facility years ago. In our arsenal we would have sanitizers, disinfectants, germicides, quaternary ammoniums and a bunch of other words I don't remember anymore.
I just received a kayak cart, from China, in four days. I touched it and I'm still breathing. But my sub-conscience is regretting it. # Bleach wipes.
We have a new disease/bug/virus and our scientist are still learning about it from a country known for not telling people everything, who jailed an eye doctor for warning his colleagues about it.
While the CDC rules say what they say today, doesn't mean they can't change tomorrow as new info comes out.
(Or it mutates) Sounds like a movie doesn't it?
Dwell time was always a good rule when dealing with baddy bugs. I understand the thought process behind quoting the CDC and it's a good one. I on the other hand like to be extra sure.
And as the radio guy said last night, Trump fired the old guard at the CDC back in 2018. And he reduced their budget. Let's hope the new guys know what they're doing, while on a budget.

10,000+ Americans have died from influenza this season. Do you worry about packages shipped within the USA? I don't think so. So why worry about the corona virus and packages shipped from China.

The flu shot makes me sick. Every time.
Fly virus can remain alive on hard surfaces for up to 24 hours.
Door handles. Telephones. Keyboards. Lobbies.
I worry about SARS, ( in the air)
I worry about MRSA, (gym bench)
I worry about Ebola, (lack of infection control)
I worry about Norovirus, (in the air, on surfaces)
I worry about the Flu, (air, surfaces)
I worry about Legionnaire's Disease, (ventilation system)
I worry about spiders, (EVERYWHERE!!!)
I worry about the tax man, (EVERYWHERE!!!)
I worry about bad drivers, (EVERYWHERE!!!!)
I worry about parking lot door dings, (WALMART!!!)
I'm worried about the next recession,
I worry about my family,
And this week, I'm worried about corona virus.
And rip tides. 😉

Indeed, norovirus is notoriously persistent on surfaces and in hosts, and also extremely contagious. But it's a completely different bug. It's like comparing apples and oranges, or rats and giraffes.

What, you're not worried about rabid foxes?

And people who shoot up churches, temples and mosques, schools, night clubs, movie theaters, shopping malls, homes, workplaces, social gatherings . . .
Don't forget to worry about them.

I suspect this could be an issue with my current order. The listing I purchased on Jan 28th, the EBAY seller stated they were in Clifton, NJ. NO mention of this coming from China. However when it shipped - yep...it's coming from China. Exactly what I didn't want!
This is NOT the first time I've purchased an item from someone claiming they are in the US, the item then ships from China. That alone I think it's shady! No updates on the shipping scans since Feb 4 (with this "LaserShip" tracking number) when it was last scanned in "NINGBO EMS" - the item is SUPPOSED to now arrive by tomorrow, but who knows at this point. I have no idea if items from the region are being held back because of this Coronavirus - if so I wouldnt be shocked.
The Ebay seller seemed to remove his storefront and now only has just a name and profile photo. So if this is a big issue...first off, ban these sellers that claim they are in the US - and shipping from the US..when they are not. And/Or slap a disclaimer on these China based items stating "due to outbreak, shipping will be dramatically affected."

You want to bet your life on it?

I don't think anyone, at this point, can make statements about what is considered "safe" and what is not. Have you seen this?
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-51482994
Or, how about this one, readers can ask questions and they will respond:
https://www.bbc.com/news/world-asia-china-51176409
I am particularly baffled by the answer given to this question: "Can you catch the virus from food prepared by an infected individual?"
Basically, the response is: Wash your hands! Really? How does washing your hands prevent ingesting the virus already sitting on a leaf of lettuce in your salad bowl, or on the meatball that comes with your Spaghetti?
The truth of the matter is, NOBODY knows anything, yet, about how this virus is speading. Making statements that lead to stirring panic is just as irresponsible, as it would be to dismiss the legitimate concerns of fellow citizens.

Please stop comparing this particular strain of the Corona virus with the flue (A or B type). They are NOT compatible. If 10,000 dies of the flue in the U.S.A. this season, the likelihood of at least 100,000 dying due to this type of Corona virus is high. At the most, it is similar only to SARS - except for being far more devastating.
