Communication preferences settings greyed out. Why, and how to fix that

I went to change my communication preferences because I don't want to receive emails from sellers once the transaction is complete, and most of the drop down menus are greyed out.  Why is that, and how to make them useable?

Is your question about possible promotional emails from a seller after a sale, that are going directly to your regular email?   If so you block those messages or redirect them to your spam/junk folders from your email account.

If this is about eBay messages, ebay seems to have disabled many of the communication preferences.
