Can't stop emails with product review requests.

I keep getting emails asking me to rate products I purchased, even though I have repeatedly gone to Communication Preferences => Buyer => Product Review Communication and set it to "Off".

The emails read: "Do you like your '<product name>' ?" and "Share your product review now and help millions of people shop smarter on eBay. We’ve made it quick and easy!" and "Update your email preferences You are receiving this email based on your eBay account preferences. To change which emails you receive from eBay, go to Communication Preferences in My eBay."

I have already researched this thoroughly.   It looks like this has been a problem for years and ebay has elected to let it stay as is.   I have already read all the posts I can find and have not found a workable answer.

Once again I have repeatdly gone to communications settings and made the changes only for it to have no effect.  Can someone please tell me how to (effectively) stop getting these emails?

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

I just delete them. I get all kinds of email I'm not terribly interested in, and that delete feature works great!

I would imagine your email provider has an option to send certain emails directly to a "trash" folder by setting up a basic rule with some identifying characteristics. Try sending every email that mentions "product review" to a trash folder, or something along those lines.

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

Well deleting them isn't really a solution, but creating a rule in gmail is.

I did that, and now gmail automatically deletes them.

Thanks.

Still, would be nice if the ebay people would fix this bug, I mean, feature.

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

I've had it with these annoying product review emails!  From now on, if I get these emails I'm rating all products "one star."  That's the only way eBay will stop this annoying practice!

Yep I keep getting them too, even with settings set to stop them. Ebay really is scum. Going to try the gmail hack, thanks.

This sort of garbage will only deter people from buying on ebay. Leaving feedback ought to be enough!

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

UPDATE:  ebay has changed their wording slightly on the spam emails, I had to update my gmail filter rules to compensate.  You may have to do the same.  How to:  https://support.google.com/mail/answer/6579?hl=en

I would contact ebay tech support to try to resolve this, again, but I kinda know better.  If ebay considers this something worth fixing, I think this post pretty clearly describes the problem already.

This started a short time ago for me too. I have the same issue. I am simply going to stop using ebay until it is fixed. ebay is welcome to let me know when this happens.

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

Same deal here. I've had the setting off for years, and they continue to send me review requests. I'm going to call them to waste my time reporting it (again) given that I think that they're well aware that they're ignoring the setting on purpose.

The only way to stop the emails is to stop purchasing on eBay. I think I can filter based on subject matter language; so perhaps a filter on "Do you like your" in the subject with a straight delete is best.

Except for the prices that I get on eBay, I have to say that I HATE EBAY! I wish another company would come along that does a better job.

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

nowadays i only buy from ebay when i really need something bad and can't obtain it from any place else.

you gotta remember that ebay is not here for you.  you are here for ebay.  your job is to make the ceo of ebay feel good about himself for having tricked you into thinking you might could turn these marketing emails off when actually they remain on.  ebay is smart enough for this issue not to remain in place by accident.

the other thing about ebay that hacked me off is that a seller listed a product 'exactly as pictured' and then sent me something else entirely, which was not compatible, and did not even work.  the seller refused to send me the item they had pictured in the listing.  when i left a negative review, the seller started harrassing me over and over.  after one month the negative review had been removed by ebay.   turns out if the seller spams the buyer enough, ebay considers this worthy of removing a negative review.  the seller even sent me a physical letter (attached) titled 'dear a@@@@@@".  i reported all this and ebay refused to do anything about it.  to this day that seller is still listing items 'exactly as pictured', and my negative review is not in the system.  my invitation to ebay staff to discuss this issue is still open btw ...  all they have to do is contact me but they never have

there comes a time in every company's life when they just decide that giving a care about buyers is no longer worthwhile, not that ebay was ever known for caring about buyers anyway ...

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

Find your email service's filtering options and set one up that whenever you get an email from "ebay@ebay.com" containing "do you like" in the subject, the email will be deleted. That's how I deal with the problem, though I am closer and closer every day to taking my business elsewhere as eBay never fails to stop implementing unattractive and punitive policies against the sellers and buyers who allow the business to exist.

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

To everyone who has expressed frustration with this issue - thank you. You’ve validated my own angst. I am both a seller and a buyer on EBay and appreciate that this service is available and as useful as it is.

However, regardless of eBay’s policy around letting these “review requests” get through to us, it’s really that low-percentage of sellers making these demands who are clueless.

Personally, I will leave a review if and when I happen to feel like it. I do choose to *not* leave negative reviews - unless something really egregious happens, something related to intentional misrepresentation.  I absolutely *do* leave all the positive reviews I can, but generally sit down to do so in one big batch, covering several weeks worth of purchases. These people pestering me for a review are frequently on my mental shortlist of “meh…didn’t really like this item” and are usually not doing themself any favors by nagging me.

If eBay wanted to provide a better experience all around, perhaps they could notify every seller who sends a haranguing review request of the displeasure they’re likely creating and that doing so anyhow rarely results in additional good reviews. Clearly not a positive outcome.

Again, thank you to others for describing their thoughts and recommendations!

Re: Can't stop emails with product review requests.

That is a great idea.   I always rate my purchases and days after I have already rated my purchase,  they send me a mail asking me to rate the product...again.   So there you have it.  I will rate products that I have had an issue with a one star,  if Ebay asked me to do it again.  I am not ready to penalize a respectful and honest Ebay seller, but for those few items I did have a problem...I will simply rate it a one star.
