Bought boxes marked 4x4x4 but are 5x5x5 when measured.

I bought boxes through eBay, which are marked 4x4x4 but are almost 5x5x5. Do I pay the 5x price or the 4x price? I can't believe USPS would allow 5x, at a 4x rate.  Thanks

The USPS shipping price is the same for both sizes.

No worries.

Typically the boxes are marked with the size that designates the inside measurements of the box.

You're not going to have any issue with a little bigger box as far as shipping price.

Yes: no worries.  The volume of a 4x4x4 cube is 64 cubic inches, which is .037 cu ft., and the volume of a 5x5x5 cube is 125 cubic inches, which is .072 cubic ft. Both are less than 0.1 cubic foot, so both will ship for the same Cubic rate.

Thank you!  When dealing with the post office, It's best to know the answers to some questions. I don't need them returning the pkg or hitting up one of my customers for more money.  IMHO they don't need more money they need a leader at the helm.

Thank you, It's always nice to check another question off of my dumb & dumber list.  One never knows what they may do these days.  I hope we all make it through the upcoming Christmas holidays "busiest season".....

Last year eBay wanted to know why I had so many late packages.  Well Dahaaaa,  It's the PO.  Let's keep our fingers crossed and pray for "good" weather.  Thanks again

FYI, USPS has special equipment at their sorting centers which will detect underpaid (or overpaid) online postage, and will charge (or credit) that difference to the sender's postage account rather than bothering USPS staff and package recipients with Postage Due or refused packages.

Nowadays it's very rare to have a recipient get a package with Postage Due; most are the result of human interactions such as the detection of misuse of Media Mail.

@thepatterndrawer,

"Last year eBay wanted to know why I had so many late packages. Well Dahaaaa, It's the PO".

eBay is not concerned with the actual delivery days being longer than the estimated delivery date.  If you got defects or warnings it was for being late shipping the packages out,  not meeting your handling time frame.
